Hi, I've been trying to find a date of death for my ancestor William Taylor. I have just received a death certificate for a possible match from 1910, with address given as 2 Brick Row, Bedlington (Bank Top). This led me to this forum and I've read the post on here around Brick Row, which was very informative.

However, I'm unsure if the certificate is a match for my William, as the location and occupation are different.

William Taylor was born in Scotland 1841 and all records I can find of him show him living in Newcastle working as a Carpenter. He is alive and living in Byker, Newcastle in 1901 census, and in the 1911 census his wife is a widow, stating that she was married for 43 years. As they were married in 1866, this gives a rough date of death at 1909. So both the age on the certificate, 68, and the year of death, match my William. It is possible that due to old age he stopped working as a Carpenter and took on the role of Cartman, so that could also fit.

So my question is, are there any other records of a William Taylor, born around 1841-42 living in Bedlington before 1910 that shows I have the wrong William, or is there anything that can show I have the correct person. I know this is a long shot, but I have been looking for this detail for many years now.

Many thanks in advance to all that take the time to read this.

My Mam, Joyce Riley nee Butcher/Collingwood, recently passed away on the 1st February 2026. I have for many years now been researching our family tree. A contributor to the page commented on #1 &2 Fountain Yard. Mam was born @#1 in 1947. Her mam, Margaret Annie Collingwood, was also born at Fountain Yard in 1908, so that was possibly a family home. My Grandad, William Henry Quilter Butcher was born in 1901 @ Doctor Pit. I would love to know if there is anyone who knows more about the history of these places, especially where mam was born. Her grand Uncles; Nanna's brothers ; James Robert Collingwood, and George Collingwood are mentioned as casualties of The Great War. Thankfully mam was able to visit their memorials.

Hello

I live in Australia and have started my family tree. Have found my English families came from Bedlington and they were miners. The Chapmans who came here also were miners in Wollongong NSW. These are all things I am learning now as I have no relatives alive. I want to put as much together as I can for my children to see how their ancestors lived and worked. I found this site. Thought I would join in, but I have to admit not to being very apt at forums. Just wanted to say hello and look forward to checking out the site.

Not sure of the spelling for this surname but I'm trying to find out what happened to Mac McGregor. I don't know his first name as he always went by the name Mac. I think he would have been born 1930ish and he used to play the piano around the Bedlington pubs and clubs in the 50s and possibly into the 60s. At that time he was unmarried. Always smartly dressed and in particular when on stage - maroon smoking jacket, black trousers and sometimes a bow tie. I think he was a miner and may have lived in the Hartlands area. Any information welcome: married, children, adress, deceased etc. Everything of interest.

I’ve been guided to this site by Alan Edgar to see if anyone can recognise or identify people in photos that have recently come into my possession. My mum and dad were both born and brought up in Bedlington so I have quite a lot of family and friends there. I’m not sure how to go about asking for help, do I make an album of the photos or add them as individual posts.

I will start by adding a photo of my grandfather James Heron b 1906 he is far left in this wedding photo. Other surnames in his family are Barr & Tait

My Dad Bill Moore, grew up in Bedlington. He had a bother called Leslie. They fell out ?? Approx 1964. I know very little about my Dads family as he never talked about them and he never wanted me to look them up. He sadly died 4 years ago, and I’m trying to do a family tree. I have loads of info from my Mams side, but not my Dads. My grandma ( Dads Mam) was Alice Lynn, she married William Moore and had my Dad and Leslie. She divorced my Grandad and remarried Bill Waldie.
My grandads family were originally from Southern Ireland. My Dads grandma maiden name was Muldoon, and I know he had a cousin in Bedlington with the name Muldoon.
I wonder if Leslie is still alive? Did he marry, did he have children? Why did they fall out and stop communicating?

im hoping someone can remember the family and fill in a few blanks. Thank you

My grandmother Julia Hunt and her brother Charles were both born in Bedlington around 1876/78 but our family had previously lived in Norfolk. They returned to Norfolk when both still children. I'm trying to ascertain why their parents would have moved to Bedlington and think this could have been to work in the mines. I would also like to know what form of travel they would have used both ways and what the conditions were like for families who worked in the mines. Also I would like to find out why they came back to Norfolk. I have established that workers were advertised for in Norfolk and my great grandfather was originally a farm worker/labourer. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi I am new here and hope that someone may be able to help with this.

This may seem a bit complicated. My Great Grandmother lived in Bedlington around the 1920's. In fact it seems she was born there around 1896 her name was Margaret Alice Walker. She then married a man called Elijah Wilkinson Smith who it seems was about 21-22 years older than her.

Sometime in the early/mid 20's she and Elijah parted. Now I am unsure here how this came about whether she ran away or they divorced is unclear. She then had a relationship with another man and had children with him, the first were twin girls one of which was my Nan, but her birth certificate shows the address of 3, Hirst Terrace Bedlington as the place of birth. The father as far as we are aware was a James Waldock who also appears to have been from the area. It seems he may have been a widower as there may have been a half brother called Tommy/Thomas?

Hi everyone, I'm researching my great-grandmother Ellen Johnston nee Todd and great-grandad John Johnston. I've been looking into my family tree on and off for a few years, but I've always concentrated on my mams maternal side of the family so now I'm trying and find out about the paternal side.

Her dad (my grandad) was John Johnston, born 1926. His mother was born Ellen Todd and married his father, also called John Johnston in 1922 in Morpeth. I have their marriage certificate so I know at the time they were married Ellen lived at Old Hall Bedlington, and John lived at 14 Clifton Row Netherton.

Then from the 1939 register I can see that they lived at 38 Doctor Terrace, Bedlington. I've also recently found their headstone at Westlea Cemetery so I have their DOB and DOD.

They had a few children, Thomas (Tommy), John, George (Geordie), James (Jimmy), Jane, Joseph (Joe), Billy and Robert Johnston.

I'm just wondering if anybody here might remember the family? Have some stories or memories? May even be related? Or possibly have some photos of the places they lived (Old Hall, Clifton Row, Doctor Terrace)? I never met most of them so it would be nice to hear peoples memories of them.

	Thanks in advance,
