Found this little gem while rummaging for information on the whereabouts of the Bedlington Post Office, mid 19th century. It is a "Report to the General Board of Health for Morpeth re Cholera, dated 1849. It certainly makes me grateful and thankful for how Bedlington is today.

	Hi Folks,

Im a virgin on here so gan canny with your comments!

Ive found about 19 photos like this, I think from West Sleekburn Colliery in about the early 1950s?

They were taken by my dad, Grundy Watson Yarrow who is pictured below, 1st from left, (Left to Right).

I would like to put names to as many miners in the photos as possible and then hopefully send them all to Ashington Archives.

Do you know any of the miners in the photos? Please name them Left to right,

Although the photos are free to copy for personal use,

I am hoping that someone can help me find Garton House, or at least where it used to be as I think it may have been demolished. It was occupied by Benjamin Graham in the 1940’s and his housekeeper (Minnie Pipe) was my grandma. Any info on the house or Minnie would be greatly appreciated.

Recently stayed in a French village called Neuvilette. We met a French gentleman called Yves who told us about a Private Thomas Joseph Stoker who carved his name on the back of the village church while billetted in the village. He was killed on 3rd May 1917 at Arras, aged 41. We managed to find out a bit more about Thomas and his family from several censuses - he was the son of Robert and Margaret Stoker and had 4 sisters (Isabella and Johanna - don't know the names of the other two). He was married to Jane Thymne Stoker and lived at Vulcan Place, Bedlington. He may not of had any children but his sisters may of?

Yves would like to get in touch with any of Thomas's relatives - the carving has intrigued him for many years - which is why we decided to try and help him.

Look forward to any answers

Louise

	Hello,

Adventures on Ancestry.com have led me to realise that I am descended from Bedlington/Morpeth and not soley from London as I thought. I'm trying to find out who my grandfather might have been. Are there any reasons why miners from The Bedlington Colliery would have found themselves in London in 1944 (when my father was conceived?)

	Thanks in advance

I have today discovered that my paternal grandparents (James Nichol and Mary Alice Nichol, nee Snowdon) had their first child (Annie Margaret) on 31st May 1891. Sadly, she did not survive. She was buried in Cambois Cemetery, January 1892. I am 76 now and I cannot get my head around the fact that I didn't know anything about this.

I don't know where Cambois Cemetery was in 1892, nor if she even had a headstone.

We moved to West Sussex in 1987 (worst thing we ever did), so I can't do any local research. Can anyone please fill in any blanks for me?

 Can you explain Netherton/Nedderton please?

Nedderton used to be called Netherton and the Colliery rows were added later. When the colliery stopped producing coal and finaly closed in 1974 all the rows etc were demolished.

Netherton changed it's name to Nedderton to avoid confusion with postal deliveries as there was another village called Netherton just outside Rothbury.

Netherton Colliery kept the same name as it was part of the colliery rows and shop owners full postal address.

This extract from the Kelly's trade directory of 1910 mentions the change

Even when you look at current maps of Nedderton you will see that the old hall in Nedderton is still named Netherton Hall.

His parents were Daniel, a coal hewer, and Mary Ann McGlen who lived at Doctor Terrace and Beatty Road Bedlington. William who served an apprenticeship as a bricklayer served in the RAF during the Second World War. William, a wing half, played for Blyth Spartans and was set to join Notts County when he was signed up to play for Manchester United by Matt Busby in 1946. In the post war years he played fairly regularly at left back or left half (old terminology). In total he played 110 league games and 12 FA Cup games for Manchester United. William scored two goals during his spell with the Reds. After Manchester United he played with Lincoln City and Oldham Athletic. In 1957, he became trainer for Lincoln City where he stayed for ten years before becoming manager of Skegness Town 1967/8. William died in 1999 in Lincolnshire.

	Hi,

My ancestor’s lived at this location in the 1911 census. I have tried searching it up but not found much information about it. Does anyone know more specifically where it was located? I would assume south of the Bank Top across the river, possibly? A burial record I’ve located also refers to it as just “Oldgate”, no Row.

Hi, this is my first post on here. Whilst doing research I’ve discovered one of my ancestors (surname Dixon) was born in 1846 at “Mount Pleasant Granary” in Bedlington. I’ve never heard of this place before, does anyone have any idea where it was? In later censuses his birth is down as Sleekburn so maybe it was near here.

All I can find on google about it is another person who was born there in 1851.

Hi, I have relatives whose burial services took place at St Cuthbert's Bedlington between the 1860s and 70s, but the records do not say where the person is buried, so can anyone help me with some questions please?

	1. Is there a cutoff date between churchyard burials and Bedlington Cemetery, Netherton Lane? I know the cemetery opened in 1867, but some posts online seem to indicate the churchyard might have some later interments, hence asking.

	2. Is there a plan of the churchyard's graves anywhere, as I doubt there would be any headstones?

	Thank you.

	Hello All,

Back in the mid 1980's I had the a nasty back injury and was scheduled to go to Hartford Hall as an outpatient for physio therapy.

Suddenly a residential spot became available so I was there full time, except for weekends, for several weeks.

It was a facility for injured miners and police as well as the NHS and had a small mine to help the miners recover and get back to work. I never saw it myself but believe it was a small drift mine on the grounds.

Anyway, miners and police being characters, there was the almost compulsory story of the Grey Lady who would moan and groan in the 3rd floor domed room and haunt the corridors and in particular the first floor west wing rooms at night. There were the usual pranks with sheets and things so I thought it was just a big joke until one Thursday night I was woken up by someone shaking my shoulder, but when I opened my eyes no one was there. I waited over an hour before I could go back to sleep and there was definitely no one there and all the others in the room were fast asleep.

Every week there was sort of a party for the residence/patients and on my last day one of the outpatient miners told me he was surprised I had lasted in "that bed". He had been in it but when the Grey Lady had woken him up by shaking his shoulder so he would not go back and went outpatient, which is why I had been suddenly given the bed.

He described exactly what had happened to me. But I had told no one out fear I was being wound up by the other patients and when I told him it had also happened to me he was very sincere in his reaction and told me of the Grey Lady who had thrown herself out of the 3rd floor domed room window to her death.

Before I left I went up to the third floor domed room, strangely the entire third floor was vacant. In the room, despite the radiators being too hot to touch, there was an icy feel to the room.

I have often wondered about the Grey Lady but never found out anything about her.

If anyone could give me some information on her I would be grateful

	Thanks

Can anyone tell me what the small building was on the end of Furnace Bridge? (see pictures). I wondered if it had been a small shop? Was the Furnace Bridge ever a toll bridge?
