Even VAT on food being contemplated. Who's going to be the first to use the phrase The Decade of Discontent?Well there you have it in Labour's Manifesto just out: A promise not to increase Income Tax; and a promise not to increase the extent of VAT; but no promise not to increase the rate of VAT.It's the only way "squaring the circle" of starting to pay off Gordo's public spending binge is now possible.
