Police are reminding motorists to keep their vehicles locked and to remove all valuables when they park.
The advice comes after thieves got into an unlocked car parked on a driveway in The Wynding in Bedlington. It happened overnight, between 9pm on Monday, 19 and 7.30am, on Tuesday 20, December.
Thieves searched the car and opened Christmas cards looking for cash. They made off empty handed.
Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference number 188 of 20/12/16 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
