  2. Whats the latest on this... any more news!?

Last I heard, they wanted to open in September... unless I am missing something there seems to be a distinct lack of anything going on there at the moment!!

    Anybody got any info?

They've been working inside for the last three weeks. Don't know why it took them so long to get started though. they bought it at the start of June from our landlord!

  3. Anyone else getting fed up of the death metal bands on a sunday night? Complained to Environmental Services at WDC, they can't do anything and passed it on to Licensing who also can't do anything. Any ideas what to do other than torching the place?!

  4. I believe the 'nail' was first 'erected' as a podium for the town crier.... like in the days before t'internet, newspapers etc. People would gather all round and the crier would walk all the way around addressing the whole crowd... at least thats what i was told

Was the 'Nail' not where the council of the time would have collected taxes from the market traders? Hence the term 'Paying on the nail'!

  5. Alistair Baker from Northumbrian Water admitted that the leaks had taken them by surprise and that they were still speculating about the cause.

He said: "We think it was down to the dry weather, which caused ground movement.

    Water pressure

"It's unusual to get one burst, let alone three, but when the supply is interrupted in one place, water is put into the system from other sources. This puts the pipes under stress, and could be the cause of the subsequent leaks.

"Some customers may experience low water pressure or discoloured water while we get the system back to normal. It's not harmful, but obviously we're trying to rectify that as quickly as possible."

After 24 hours without water, domestic customers are entitled to £20 compensation per day, while businesses can claim £60, according to Northumbrian Water.

Anyone who believes they are entitled to more can apply in writing to the company, which will then deal with claims on an individual basis.

  6. It sells silver trinkets - I suspect to middle class dropouts with names like 'Swampy'.

That's just one room of it! The rest of the building is the base for a theatre production company.

I'm just interested to know how the building has evolved because there are some strange old bits of brickwork, especially on the inside of the courtyard, that would suggest it started off a lot smaller and had bits added over the years.

  7. We are currently experiencing water supply problems in Bedlington, Stakeford, Guidepost, Choppington, parts of East Cramlington and Seaton Deleval areas of our region. This is due to two 18" mains bursts on our network.

We have been working through the night and recognise the inconvenience that is being caused as a result of this burst. We have been able to isolate the burst section of main where we believe the first burst is located however as we tried to refill the system it became apparent that another burst had occurred. We have isolated this burst and are attempting to refill the network so as to restore supplies. We would like to thank all our customers for their continued patience and would like to reassure everyone that we are doing everything we can to resolve this problem as soon as possible.

    You couldn't make it up.

Loads more bowsers appearing on the streets according to our favourite utility's website; but no use crying over spilt milk. Oh, I mean water.

they would fill the system a lot quicker if there wasn't a water board guy watching it streaming out of a stand pipe in Front Street, Bedlington. He's watching it come out full force, obviously straight from the reservoir. My flat is twenty yards away, but being the highest building can I get any water? NO!

Wonder if he minds me having a shower in it?

  8. I live next to the reservoir in bedlington, talking to the water board bloke this morning (tuesday 1st), he says they still don't know exactly where the leak is and it will probably be a few days before they can fix it AND a few more to refill the system!!

  9. Having lived and worked here for the last three years I have to say that I think Bedlington is not so bad (compared with the suburbs of London). However I do agree with the comments that the council could do a lot more to get the empty commercial premises filled with new business. And by this I don't mean letting property developers turn them into flats!

Then new street furniture looks good, it's just a shame that the council demolished the big flower planters by the Red Lion to replace them with the new ones. Why didn't they leave the old ones so the new ones were in addition to them? What a waste of money!
