  1. Thanks for the clarification on that Fourgee.
  2. I believe there used to be a restriction on shutters on the Front Street at some point. The decline in the quality of the facilities on the street may have coincided with this restriction being lifted. Zuenziga when it was next to the post office was the first I noticed. Perhaps Malcolm could enlighten us re the 'car parts shop next to Tait's' on Glebe Road which has been shuttered up for some time.
  3. Dementia Awareness Week 2015 is taking place from 17th-23rd May and its aim is to get across to as many people as possible that life doesn't end when dementia begins. You can get 2-for-1 tickets to The Alzheimer's Show in London on 5th-6th June by using code AS241. Full price tickets are £10 online/£16 on the door. Tickets The Alzheimer's Show will feature expert speakers, practical talks, activities and products and services to help in the care of those with dementia. I thought posting this under friends and family seemed appropriate however administrators should feel free to move it.
  4. The 5 Cloudbase Angels............Destiny, Harmony, Melody, Rhapsody and Symphony,
  5. There are a number of interesting comments under this topic however if we focus on the one petition it may help get investment. There are only 338 signatures at present and the petition closes at the end of the month.
  6. Perhaps there is an asbestos issue at the premises.
  7. Perhaps not my view however Former judge says rape conviction rates will not improve until 'women stop getting so drunk'
  8. I think Maggie is correct in that the younger generation do not do First Footing. Perhaps their parents have advised them not go into strangers houses and accept free drinks from older men and women.
  9. Were shops forced out to accommodate Tesco's plans and if they were could they take some action. Not sure if it was Spend & Save that had to move to Prudhoe.
  10. Love the post Maggie
  11. Is Bedlington a dementia friendly community? Recently I attended a 'Dementia Friends' information session at Cramlington. I would recommend the sessions to anyone who has any concerns regarding their relatives or friends. ( Further details can be found at https://www.dementiafriends.org.uk/ ) Five things you should know about dementia: 1. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing 2. It is caused by diseases of the brain. The most common being Alzheimer's 3. It's not just about losing your memory - it can affect thinking, communicating and doing everyday tasks 4. It is possible to live well with dementia 5. There is more to a person than the dementia With support, people with dementia can and do take an active role in life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=9KBlXb3j2Q8
  12. My only visit to the City Hall was in the early seventies when I went to see T.Rex when they were at their peak. To start the concert Marc Bolan was risen up on the stage by an illuminated star and many of the girls then threw their underwear onto the stage. I think I was star struck at the time as the next live group I remember seeing live were The Jam at Whitley Bay ice rink.
  13. It would also be interesting to find out what Sym's parents ate.
  14. Both the football club and the cricket club have been targeted in the last month.
  15. When the Chinese closed on Hirst Terrace the rats in the back yard were the size of cats and dogs.
  16. Can you say 'Black Bullets' or is it politically incorrect these days.
  17. The Reverend Henry Cotes mentioned by Maggie may shed some clues about life in Bedlington in his 1809 book entitled 'Metres, Addressed To The Lovers Of Truth, Nature, And Sentiment'. It does not appear to be the type of book that you would be rushing to take on holiday with you. Cotes has a poem in the book called 'Watson's Wake' that refers to Cuthbert Watson's death at the church in 1669. There may also be a Templar link as his grandson was Digby Henry Cotes of the Inner Temple, London. Cotes died in 1835 ( Hopefully I have attached a copy of his will )
  18. Perhaps politics can have its own heading in Hobbies & Interests and everyone would then know where to find the latest debate
  19. Hi Paul, Welcome to the forum. There is a James Waldock 1873 - 1946 who is a possible. He lost his wife Susannah in 1913 when she was 42yrs. It appears that he had a number of children and records suggest he also had a brother Thomas. I think I have picked up on your Nan's birth and would guess that the only chance of a mention of her father would be on her baptism record.
