Hi There

Hi, I'm Roz, now living in London, and brought up in Billingham but my mother's side of the family are Bedlingtonians for several generations. Since I'm having a go at finding out more about them, this site looked an invaluable resource, especially as it's not so easy for me to just pop into the Northumberland Archives.

So, for any local historians out there, my maternal grandfather was a Johnson, who married a Storey in 1930 and promptly defected to Newcastle. I've also got Wilsons (my Gran said when she was tiny (say from around 1907) she used to play in Wilson's Yard (then run by an uncle) and hide in the big hole in the ground used in the making of cartwheels), Clarks (including at Netherton Moor Farm) and Grays in the mix. There also seems to have been a concentration of relatives in Sleekburn Colliery in the late 19th century.

So, that's really why I'm here - we used to visit great aunts and uncles in Bedlington in the late 60s-early 70s, but I haven't had an opportunity to get back since. This site gives me a chance to get to know more about all things Bedlington.

Cheers
