Just Popping In To Say Hello

Hello everyone - just thought I would introduce myself and tell you why this site interests me. I am Margaret living away in the middle of the country but my ancestry is pure Geordie. My mother came from Newcastle and my father Jarrow (lived for a while in Lily Avenue, Bedlington) and several of my ancestors lived at some point in Bedlington. My grandparents also lived in the area in Netherton Colliery and my grandmother married - as a resident of Netherton - at St. Cuthberts Church, Bedlington. I have only been able to visit Bedlington once about 20 years ago and was lucky enough to look round the church and see the Miners Remembrance Chapel within the church. I was also able to find mentioned in the Remembrance Book two of my relations who were miners and fought in WW1. I have a great interest in Netherton - as it then was - but was bitterly disappointed to find when I visited that it no longer existed. My grandparents died at Plessey Street, Netherton and Howard Row, Netherton. I have searched everywhere for photographs showing the houses in Netherton but to no avail. Any information as to how/where I could obtain some would be much appreciated.

There's some old photos of Netherton in the galleries, might not be what you are looking for but it's worth a look.

Hello Margaret!

Perhaps you might find some photographs of Nedderton here:

http://communities.northumberland.gov.uk/Nedderton.htm

There also seems to be some census information, maps, plans etc which could be of help to you?

The Bedlington bit is here:

http://communities.northumberland.gov.uk/Bedlington.htm

this has some great old photos, census reports and even school records which may be of interest?

Thank you for that information. I will take a look. This is a long shot, but I don't suppose anyone remembers my grandparents/family from Netherton. They were Thomas and Elizabeth Davison and had three daughters, Margaret, Isabella and Mary(called Mamie) and two sons Thomas and James. Thomas and James both still lived in Netherton (Plessey Street and Howard Row) in 1932 when their father died.
