I am starting to make some progress on my family history thanks in part to the replies I have recieved on here... so I thought I'd give it another go with a something that has me stumped!

I THINK I have managed to find my great grandfather in the 1911 census. His birth place is recorded as 'Carrington Colliery'... I have never heard of it and can't find any references to it on google.

Anyone know anything about it or where it was?

Thanks

Jim

The only reference i can find to Carrington Colliery, is that it was formerly known as `Wickham and Bullock Island Colliery, Carrington`. If this is the right colliery (and not Barrington) then you`d be best off searching for Bullock Island. There`s quite a bit info on Google.

There`s a photo here too.
