Can Anyone Remember Anything About Land At Stakeford Road?

Hi,

I'm doing a bit of research with my elderly mother and trying to jog her memory a bit.

Can anyone remember the land at the beginning of Stakeford Road ? Who owned this land? I know Allan Tait bought it and was later used as a scrapyard - what was here before? I remember The Thornton Brothers were over the road, but my mam is trying to tell me all about before this but not making much sense!

I'm hoping someone out there can help me out so I can help my mam out a bit!

There about 6 streets there in first half of last century.Right up to the railway bridge. There was a farmhouse dated 1844 next to the road in middle of village.

German aeroplane was shot down in the brickyard just behind village.

Also there was a pit in Victorian times in the vicinity of the burn.

Arthur Coxon was an onsetter at Bedlngton A pit.
