Lack of interest and new membership.

Yes, unarguably, apathy rules. But there's still a lot of people rooting for Bedlington, even if quite a few of those have already voted with their feet, often through necessity!

Tragic when anyone/thing gives up.  Even more tragic to burden new generations with a defeatist mindset.  I believe the BDT can more than make up for this, and it deserves everyone's full support.

It is disappointing to see the Chamber of Trade fold, and perhaps I could have done my bit and joined, but a quick look down the Front Street is enough clue as to why there was little interest. Unless you are a hairdresser or beautician it seems there is no business for you in the town. I would, I suppose, have felt something of a charlatan as most of my business is from overseas sources.

Or a tattooist, Merc. How on Earth does Bedlington support two tattoo parlours?

Given the high rents I have no idea. The estate agents question is easy - not all the houses they sell are in Bedlington, and the commission they make is colossal.
