Ovalteeny Posted April 5, 2015 Author Report Posted April 5, 2015 (edited) Been listening to the new Mark Knopfler album - Tracker, and it's very good, but the stand-out track (for me) is the duet with Ruth Moody (of the Wailin' Jennies, a Canadian based trio of ladies). https://youtu.be/WFad2HC2C Edited April 5, 2015 by Ovalteeny

Ovalteeny Posted April 20, 2015 Author Report Posted April 20, 2015 Interesting, good even, but not really my sort of stuff.
Malcolm Robinson Posted April 20, 2015 Report Posted April 20, 2015 Certainly foot tapping stuff Ovalteeny! Shades of a misspent youth perhaps?
Maggie/915 Posted April 21, 2015 Report Posted April 21, 2015 The folk awards are tomorrow night on Radio 2.
Ovalteeny Posted April 26, 2015 Author Report Posted April 26, 2015 Saw these 3 girls at The Sage on Friday, excellent stuff from Sarah Watkins, Sarah Jaroz and Aoife O'Donovan https://youtu.be/BTDUDRIEifQ
Malcolm Robinson Posted April 27, 2015 Report Posted April 27, 2015 And the original, both really good! (Listen to Lincoln Town!)
Ovalteeny Posted April 27, 2015 Author Report Posted April 27, 2015 Malcolm, Mr. Hiatt is one of my old time favourites, I have most of what he has recorded and seen him live a couple of time too.I just thought the girls did justice to a very good song and I'm glad that you liked it. Lincoln Town is another very good Hiatt song.My favourite album of John Hiatts is "Little Head" with the fabulous line in the song "Pirate Radio" that goes something like "One star in the sky, so I named it Otis Redding, just like Marvin Gaye searching for his Tammi Terrell". Magic.
Ovalteeny Posted April 27, 2015 Author Report Posted April 27, 2015 Found a live version of Pirate Radio :-https://youtu.be/2K2_1G-6XaQ
Maggie/915 Posted April 28, 2015 Report Posted April 28, 2015 Sting , Jimmy Nail, The Unthanks, The Wilsons, Katherine Tickell and more were at the Sage Friday and Saturday. We needed to take out a mortgage to get a ticket or two but the concert was one of the very very best.People from all around the World were at the venue. The car park was not full and after there were so many people outside taking picturesYou just had to be there.
Maggie/915 Posted April 28, 2015 Report Posted April 28, 2015 Should have said every hotel in Newcastle must have been full. The show was a sell out.
Ovalteeny Posted April 28, 2015 Author Report Posted April 28, 2015 Maggs, I'm very jealous, as we tried to get tickets, in vain for Sting's "The Last Ship", but went along on Friday to see the girls in Hall 2. Have you seen the Sting review by Alan Harrison on ND, put this link into your search engine and check it out : http://nodepression.com/live-review/sting-last-ship
Maggie/915 Posted April 28, 2015 Report Posted April 28, 2015 Thanks Ovalteeny.Good to read the article. The whole show was very good.

Malcolm Robinson Posted July 13, 2015 Report Posted July 13, 2015 Time to turn the speakers up.............
Ovalteeny Posted July 16, 2015 Author Report Posted July 16, 2015 I didn't know that this boy was such a good guitarist, check out Jason Isbell guesting with the latest incarnation of Lynard Skynard...... https://youtu.be/xCImLkBJiFk
Malcolm Robinson Posted July 16, 2015 Report Posted July 16, 2015 Got a bit of a touch of the Notting Hillbilly's if you get my drift Ovalteeny, as if you stepped into someone just enjoying themselves.
Ovalteeny Posted July 17, 2015 Author Report Posted July 17, 2015 Malcolm, I can see where you're coming from. I saw the Notting Hillbillys when they toured (I think it was at Aylesbury Town Hall !!). Jason Isbell was in The Drive by Truckers, who are worth catching up with, but I love his 2013 album solo "Southeastern", which is more singer/songwriter/americana type of stuff. So I was pleasantly surprised to see this video with the latest incarnation of Lynard Skynard.
Ovalteeny Posted July 31, 2015 Author Report Posted July 31, 2015 This instrument might inspire lot's more people to DIY and send Fender & Gibson out of business.......check out this different version of Rollin 'n Tumblin' https://youtu.be/qnyDdNoLCm8
