We work hard n we struggle and I know a few on dole with 2 kids same as us got more than what we have to live on? so, if you work, and on low wage, the system makes you worse off than on the dole? if u an alcoholic or depressed etc.. u get disability, but if like my other half u epileptic n got arthritis but work ya !*!@# off 2 feed ya family, you aint entitled 2 any disability payments! If u work 16 hours u get free school dinners, milk, trips, music lessons etc.. but if u workin full time on same wage u get nowt? so is labour looking after the working class? NO! will camerons lot? NO! Will the Liberals? NO! Will any of the local MP's do owt for bedders? NO! ANGRY.COM!!! Cameron said MPs are the slaves n we the masters. but they do not care about any of us!This country has gone 2 pot - nanny state, people better off on dole, crime, the nhs ..... an endless list! rant rant rant...... we all could do so about the state of this country... but who can we vote for to sort it out????

  2. Maybe we could install loudspeakers playing classical music in all known hostile states as a pre-emptive measure... well it worked for the Metro.

  3. Well it may be an incentive for folks to vote KNOWING its possible the party they feel more inclinded to vote for might get in. As in the case around here where if Harold Shipman was standing for Labour he would get in as Mobius said on this forum a while back, consequentaly the way I see it there are 4 votes going to waste possibly.

  4. Before we start messing with the voting system we have to get more than six out of ten people to vote.

  5. You've answered your own original question there; we don't want to get bombed, and neither does anyone else, hence having an effective deterrent such as Trident means we are much less likely to. That's why we have it, and must continue to do so.

  6. I think it would work best in the house of lords. It would give them the moral authority to block really bad bits of legislation without this Parliament Act nonsense - where the govt of the day gets its way anyway, despite how appallingly bad its legislation is - and bad we have had! Getting rid of the PM's right to pack the lords out with his own failed cronies has to be good for democracy anyway. A lot of what Cameron says about decisive parliaments is correct, and he doesn't have anything like as much to gain by taking an anti position as Labour has. It currently takes 44,000 votes to elect a Tory MP, but only 26,500 to elect a Labour one. Of course the LDs have by far the most to gain, but is it really fair that when the majority of people in a constituency want either a Tory or Labour MP they should somehow be foisted off with a LD? The solutions to this problem all look bad for Joe Public, involving more MPs when we could probably do with about 10% less, as per Cameron's proposals. So beware of politicians proposing change, as it's very likely to involve an even longer gravy-train - all in the public interest of course!

  7. A little girl asked her father, 'do all fairy tales begin with "Once upon a time"? The father replied, 'No, some begin with - If I am elected.' It's tough being a politician. Half your reputation is ruined by lies the other half is ruined by the truth! 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'. Political cunning should never be mistaken for intelligence. During Britain's "brain drain," not a single politician left the country. Crime is merely politics without the excuses. Activity is the politician's substitute for achievement. Why is it that political leaders don't seem to have all the answers until they write their memoirs? The trouble with political jokes is they get elected. The government claims it's following the will of the people. I didn't even know we'd died! Make your M.P. work - don't re-elect him. If voting changed anything, they'd make it illegal. A politician is a man who stands for what he thinks the voters will fall for. A politician has to be able to see both sides of an issue, so he can get around it.

  8. I can see plenty of places where threats can and do come from its just I don't see any of the nuclear capability countries as being included which would seem to make the whole argument, if you let one off so will we, redundant. I wonder how soundly people who live in non nuclear armed counties sleep at night, probably better for not being a primary target! As for stopping the military adventures, yes we should. I also think that in present circumstances we should stop this increase in foreign aid promised and put that £4B into paying some debt off.

  9. Jester, just keep reporting to the police no matter how trivial an incident seems at the time. Every time you report an incident to the police they will have to log it and this will gradually push up crime statistics for your area – which is the last thing the police want.

  10. Ok i'll admit now i've not read 100% of this topic, only up to Toby's second post. But anyways, I'd just like to say, that when i was younger, i was quite the opposite of you Toby. I say younger, i mean when i was 15 - 18. I had loads of mates, i was always hanging about the streets, and i will admit i used to knock about with some troublemakers. I went to all the 6th Form Socials, I organised them back in 6th Form. I was drinking before i was 18. I was rarely in the house, even though i did have a playstation/internet or whatever. The one thing i did have, was respect for other people. ...I've never done anything like harrassing or taunting people, i've certainly NEVER done anything like Jester is describing, i personally think it's absolutely disgusting. I'm not a 'somebody' but i do look down my nose at scum like that. I actually caused quite an uproar on the bus not so long ago when some youths were firing spitballs across the bus, which resulted in me telling them to grow up (only being 20 myself) and another elderly man telling them they were 'the scum of the earth', in which i strongly agreed. They were really upsetting some elderly passengers and i was just filling with anger. I had no where to hang about, nothing to do but wander round with a group of mates, sit at the doctors, or down the front street...but i never resorted to all of this. What i'm trying to say is that i don't think it's about not having anywhere to go. It's about how they're brought up, what principles they live by, not being taught to respect others, not being taught to THINK FOR THEMSELVES. If someone is brought up to belive that doing this sort of thing is 'funny'...then...that's what they're going to do. I had one hell of an upbringing, i was taught right from wrong, i was punished for my actions, but i was also taught to think for myself and learn from mistakes. I really do hope you get this sorted Jester! There's just no call for it.

  11. Just shows the emotive nature of the topic Sym…… (Did you use that pronoun deliberately?) I'm with Merc on this one with the proviso we actually talk and listen to the kids first. Hopefully there will soon be somewhere for them to go and occupy themselves but once there is……..no excuses!
