Just seen your info above about Beatty Road. My grandparents Jeff (Jefferson) and Margaret Graham (nee Lynn) lived in 3 Beatty Road until their deaths about 1969. My grandfather worked in the Dr Pit until he became ill and died of pneumoconiosis from the coal dust. I was born in St James hospital in Newcastle and lived in Beatty Rd with my mother Doris and her sister Audrey for a couple of years until my father returned from Army sevice in India. We then moved to Basingstoke Hants where we lived until I married and moved to Australia. I remember visiting my granparents many times as a child (1950-1960) and played with all the other kids in the street. We used to go potato picking at the property at the end of Beatty Rd for which we earned a big Granny Smith apple. I also remember running out to the street to collect the milk from the mikman with his horse and cart. I also remember shovelling coal into the coal house that had been delivered in bulk and tipped into the street. Good old memories of my youth. Ray
