  1. Seconded! I try to provide a core quote when I see something that I think is worth discussion. It's always a bit hit and miss as you never know what will stir passions in Terrierville! I'm still hopeful on Raspberry Pi though!
  2. ...oh Draghi, Draghi, Draghi ...oh Draghi, Draghi, Draghi Monte Dei Paschi Bank CEO Fabrizio Viola speaks during a news conference Hey!! Hey!! ...and it only took six years to come clean on! Safe as Barings and the Bank of England I reckon. I wonder which bank he deposits his seven figure bonus in?
  3. Anyone want to submit some display ads to test the bedlington.co.uk sidebar rotator? Size 270 width x 320 height, .jpg or .gif, as compact as possible so's not to impact load times. Must be fully relevant to a Bedlington audience. Your reward: thousands of free displays! Upload to your gallery, PM me, and I will do the rest.
  4. http://rastrack.co.uk/ If that's anything like accurate - wow! Was going to get one or two last year but I settled for an Olimex board, as those have a completely open design. Anyone in Bedders playing with a RP? And... for those who haven't got a clue what this is all about: http://www.raspberrypi.org/
  5. Our privacy policy: http://www.bedlingto.../privacypolicy/ But basically bedlington.co.uk guards member's email address', and will not disclose any private information without a UK court order. We do not sell any information to any other party, and you are in sole control of what is published about you and held on-line (edit or re-edit your profile). Nothing is 100% secure, but we have our own servers, and don't rely on the security of a third party internet service provider like most other boards do. We keep our software bang up to date, and even have one of the authors of this very popular software - used world-wide - on-board to see to this. In short we are local people supporting our own town, and not a faceless US corporation who is solely out to make money out of you. In supporting bedlington.co.uk you are supporting your own community, and nothing else!
  6. Explore the black bar at the top of every Forum page. In particular click on the drop-down arrow beside your handle (pen-name) and try out the Manage Friends and the Personal Messaging links. You can also click on a member's name or icon (above and left on their posts), and hit their [send me a message] button.
  7. Why would Cameron help the LD's when they went back on the boundary changes deal? Oh sorry that was near fully a year ago! A full year of continuing to protest his innocence, then he's nailed by an old SMS from his son! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21320992 Thing is this could very nearly have been our deputy PM, and you have to do far better at telling porkies to occupy that eminent position!
  8. ...and how little reinforcing they put into their road bridges?
  9. Picture from recent Apple patent application. Maybe it's really just those patentable tables again?
  10. Meanwhile ... in Spain ... http://politica.elpa...226_077767.html The ruling party takes double entry book-keeping to a new level! Translation: http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=es&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fpolitica.elpais.com%2Fpolitica%2F2013%2F02%2F01%2Factualidad%2F1359751226_077767.html Of course it's only Euros, not real money, and everyone is at it!
  11. On a swivel chair in front of a 21" computer screen. I thought this was going to say ...when you heard Kennedy had been shot?
  12. http://www.nw3hampst...stead-shopping/ No solicitors; no estate agents; no social club; no chippy; no dole office - what a crap place!
  13. Hey, it's Italy! Always some institution having their electricity cut off for non-payment or something! The real news is: http://money.cnn.com...ndal/index.html Too close to Draghi for comfort. Save the Euro? Save yourself first! Easy! You just do the Monte-Paschi and you turn around - that's what it's all about!
  14. I remember the 1962 utopian vision very well, and recalled it here many moons ago. Then I was young and silly enough to believe that it would happen. The later proposals called for a much larger degree of scepticism. Historically it all goes back to the local aristos frustrating George Stevenson's simple plan. That bit of political manipulation not only cost Bedlington dearly, it also cost peoples' lives! But, whilst there were undoubtedly external forces to point fingers at, complete failure to get our act together is the main culprit. Consistently and overwhelmingly voting for a single party in the conviction that its Hampstead-dwelling elites cared a jot about what went on 280 miles North of their cosy intellectual pursuits, was the other. Nothing changed because the town short-circuited the democratic process - it allowed itself to be both taken for granted and totally written off by the respective political parties, and at both national and local levels. Nothing ever happened because nothing ever needed to happen! The farce nowadays is that the Labour Party, which has cost the town so dear, has moved on from Socialism. Bedlington has not woken up to this simple fact, and continues to sell its votes for the proverbial mess of pottage! It might have been that a close-run contest between the LD's and Labour would have got us out of the mire, but the LD's, faced with the realities of power, have now killed their chances stone dead. Another gleam of hope consigned to the "All our yesterdays" inside-page-filler of history!
  15. Nige's response to the Dave speech: http://uk.reuters.com/article/2013/01/29/uk-britain-europe-farage-idUKBRE90S0G420130129
  16. Very similar to the old one; just send us lots more money for the Scottish "Parliament" to spend - and UK Pounds please, we've lost our appetite for Euros. Devolution Max: You meet all our liabilities, and we get to spend all the oil revenues.
  17. Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire MEP's take on Dave's speech here: http://www.publicser...uk-is-snake-oil For those who can't be bothered to read it I'll summarise: He's got a bad track record of keeping his promises, and can't be trusted. He's also the very last person we need to be renegotiating anything with the EU - with the possible exception of Tony Blair who cost us as an arm and a leg the last time round!
  18. According to the Northumbrian Language Society it means a strong box. Some interesting stuff here: http://www.northumbriana.org.uk/langsoc/about.htm

  20. Buy a little Samsung camera, does them itself, even produces decent ones hand-held. You need to do two to cover 360 degrees though. I found out, quite accidentally, that the best way to test how good it is is to stand at the middle of a massive car park with lots of white paint on the ground. I even discovered the panorama mode accidentally when one of my point and shoots came out quite funny. That one's real pretty though - you should go into the Chrissie Card biz! About five folds in it and it should stand pretty well.
  21. ...ah, Bedlington wasn't called an Urban District for nowt then.. Urban Dictionary: Spoach Probably on to the second definition when I spoached the thread.
  22. Back in your seat Keith Minor! I want 1000 words on Pitmatic here by Friday, and pull your trousers up!
  23. Make that a bit further out of town - Westridge. I searched on that tome of all information Bedlington.co.uk! There is indicated the night of the 14/15th April, which is more precise than the photo! On the WWII brickworks raid: This was likely the time my Aunt - a nurse - was on the train passing along the line there. A guy in military in uniform - I forget which service - jumped out of his seat opposite, grabbed her, threw her to the floor of the carriage, and got on top of her. She thought she was being attacked by him until it became evident that the train was being targeted. Just updated the comment on the original Elliott's photo anyway!
  24. I seem to remember something about a WWI bomb crater up North Ridge way. The date is difficult, but I'd cast a wild guess at 14th April 1915!
  25. OK so I'm wrong and it's not 1985, it's my later date. Didn't spot the 'H' reggie outside Elliotts - which is Aug 1990 - July 1991. That has to be a brand new car because petrol averaged £2.28 gall in 1991 and only averaged £2.13 in 1990, and was moving up rapidly then. The per gall price that's mostly obscured is £1.99 (from the price per litre conversion). Then there's the Christmas lights. So it's late in 1990 - approaching Christmas.
