I remember the 1962 utopian vision very well, and recalled it here many moons ago. Then I was young and silly enough to believe that it would happen. The later proposals called for a much larger degree of scepticism. Historically it all goes back to the local aristos frustrating George Stevenson's simple plan. Buy a little Samsung camera, does them itself, even produces decent ones hand-held. You need to do two to cover 360 degrees though. I found out, quite accidentally, that the best way to test how good it is is to stand at the middle of a massive car park with lots of white paint on the ground.
