You might be interested in the Who Do You Think You Are programme on actress Helen Hunt. It was still available on iPlayer the last time I looked. She finds out that one of her ancestors was a leading figure in the US Suffragettes around about the time of EWD. http://www.bbc.co.uk...es_3_Episode_2/

Except there's no Good Friday hol down around the Med! Hard to believe when every conceivable excuse for a public holiday is honoured - but not that one! The UK£ is recovering some of its composure against the € though, which is a not unwelcome development in those parts! Saw something last night which said the grab could be as high as 60% of some deposits. Incredible, and a lot of powerful people with contacts are going to be very very upset! Maybe the bank manager who was doling his own money out to those in need has a better appreciation of hard realities than some politicos?

Do the crime then patch the law as needed - a perk of the power game, isn't that right Silvio? All the get-out-of-jail cards are there: general public interest; public security; etc. Says who? Certainly not the general public in who's name all the jiggery pokery is performed in! I think with the EU we've already passed over the edge there, but - like an off-the-cliff cartoon character - it's taking a while to notice the void below.

Need them to write a 4D add-in! It needs elements of that, elements of image digitisation, and elements of photo stitching software.

I've been thinking about this for sometime, and as more previously unseen material crops up the prospect comes ever closer. Simply stitching together a series of photos is no good, essentially the model needs to incorporate time as one of the axes. Putting an approximate date on each of the images then becomes crucial, though once enough data has been garnered the software would have a role in best sliding the image into the space-time frame. It's really just an extension of the modelling software that's used for the 3D recreations we currently see on history programmes these days, but with the added plus of actual surface rendering data, and being able to move through time too! There'd be an underlying wire-frame creation, and obviously fuzzy bits in the presentation where essential data was still missing - but that's all part of the fun of re-creation. It's way beyond my current knowledge of state of the art. Though one of our current neighbours - who we bump in to from time to time - is a worshipped expert in CGI, works a lot for "The Mouse", and would be the best person to ask. It's fascinating to talk to him about the latest CGI stuff coming up, and you could probably dine out in Geekland on the experience! Don't hold your breath on this as sometimes I don't see him from one year to the next as he's a real live jet-setter, but I will, at some point, report back on what he says on the matter.

NOTE TO SYMPTOMS: That requires (re)reading and studying all the posts then working out the best way to knit them. It's time consuming enough just to make sure all the posts are scanned by someone. If the search isn't producing the required results (though it has been improved recently) then we'd certainly have to re-visit that. Why not consider taking on a forum yourself? The principal is to mess with stuff as little as possible, whilst maintain some sort of coherence. It's always puzzling when someone says where has this or that gone. Fact is that virtually nothing is removed from this board, except the odd bit of pure spam. At times moved, but seldom if ever removed, and it's often a joint decision.

Think I must have blinked when we suddenly acquired a US style Supreme Court. Designed for/by Tony's cronies at law? The democratic deficit isn't just with the EU. Always amazing what the establishment can sneak under the noses of an uncaring public - whatever the system!

An interesting viewpoint here: British Establishment blocks Minute's Silence for Emily Davison

...and Sarky too! Why would they go into politics if they couldn't exercise a little influence on behalf of those that might "show their gratitude"? At least it's not the usual sex scandal. It's a 25% bank deposit grab now! More or less ensures that Cypriot banks are out of international monetary musical chairs for good!

And yet another report, this time from no less a body than the European Commission. In fact this report also says that there is a small but measurable boost in revenues. The "anti-piracy" people of course will have none of this because if it's shown that their criminalising kiddies is to no purpose, then there's no justification for their organisations or their jobs.

Sorry, just spotted this. All I meant was that it has few industrial uses these days, and they get less and less. It's like modern celebs - valuable because it's valuable. It's no anchor for anything, and just as susceptible to "tulipmania" as anything else. Land would be the obvious best anchor of value on our little Earth, but the so-called planners and politicos have screwed that one too. Who's arguing about GB's total incompetence? But, even a stopped clock... It's the old contagion thing again. You never know where it's going to break out next. You can scheme and plot, but it will get you in the end, and where you don't expect! Do you honestly think the bankers can see so far as to be scheming about oil at this point? They are flailing around looking for a way to preserve their own empires and hides. Bet the Cypriots would prefer £GB! Looks like the MoD are going to need to set up a flight timetable. It's now a game of who will blink first. Cyprus thinks they have the EU by the proverbials as they threaten the EU's stability, and the amounts involved are a tiny fraction of EU gross GDP. Others have got much bigger handouts without any of the political pain, and so it's grossly unfair. The extent of their naivety is illustrated by the trip to Russia to ask for improved terms and extended repayment on a Russian loan, at the very time they are attempting to rob Putin's rich buddies and he's seriously considering calling it in. On the other hand Germany reckons they are holding all the cards. If an example of why all in the EU must act like good Germans has to be set, then tiny Cyprus seems like the ideal place to send the bailiffs in. Applying the appropriate mindset they are both right, and so it's the mindsets that are wrong, not their reasoning. Interesting times!

Improved the pound a bit though! Nothing at all new in this in Italy, it's happened before and the ex-pats there are very wary of a grab - believe me! A big boost in regional aid coming next week. The clock is ticking and Dave is in for a drubbing, esp at the hands of about 60% of his own supporters, and that's not including the ones that have already defected. As "a moderniser" trying to attract people who'd likely never dream of voting for him anyway, he's pulled off the amazing trick of alienating hordes of loyal supporters, just at the very time they can see a real alternative. Eaton educayshuns ain't what they used to be!

Charity shops seem to do a good line in s/h books these days. There's a good one on Bowes Street, Blyth. The Annual Bedlington Book Fair sounds like a bit of fiction perpetuated by someone who's never actually been to Bedders - a bit like the illusion of the place crawling with that dog. Always pops the '60s song "England Swings" into my head - doubtless written by an American who'd never set foot this side of the pond. Isn't there a nationally famous s/h book outfit at Alnwick, something to do with the old station? A snippet of s/h info brought to you by someone who's never actually been to it!

While the original idea of the Doomsday Disc was laudable, it has surely been overtaken by technology, the pace of which couldn't reasonably have been foreseen at that time. The fact that just about no one now can read the original 12" discs or data format is telling. "Rebooting" it not a worthwhile use of resources I think. Very much a we've suddenly got this "vast" amount of digital storage, and we need to find something to use it for project. As far as Bedders is concerned: clicking on the two map links is telling. Particularly so if you attend to the very bottom of the map!

A drop of $100/oz or so doesn't look like a crash. More like some of the heat being taken out of the extreme speculation. I think we'd have to see sub $1000/oz for it to be called a crash - not entirely impossible once reality dawns on some. There's no doubt that gold production is increasing to meet the demand at today's heady prices. Not terribly useful stuff nowadays anyway; one minor point that GB was right on.

Bedlington Has A New Residents Group
threegee replied to Keith Scantlebury's topic in Talk of the Town
I've taken the liberty of promoting this to a front page news item. Also fixed a couple of minor typos, and assumed you meant to say disrespecting not disrepecting. A photo, though not essential, would help a lot! Really great news. If you require free webpages on Bedlington.co.uk just ask - even your own domain (burnside.bedlington.co.uk maybe?) PM me, or indeed any of the moderators for help. On the new machine you can now to have your own FTP account, so your own webmaster can upload your own pages. There is of course no charge for any of this. Also, you can start your own forum (which can optionally be password protected by you) on the general board.- 26 replies

You don't need to import people to do that, you just use good old local Labour Party talent. Seems to help if you can preside over the mass slaughter of innocent kiddies too! Mind you those were the days when you could cover up just about anything. A nod and a wink to the right people; a hint of a gong down the line; a peerage to the really compliant big shots; and, if all else failed, a D Notice to gag the press - sorted! Malc. do you think an elected P. Com. is going to put their head on the block to cover up something like another Hillsborough? Be grateful for what crumbs of democracy we are thrown by the political elite, and then keep on asking for more. One of these days we'll get asked to consent to something that really matters - like our de-facto EU membership! One of these days they might even notice that we now live in a data-centric society, and that you can take a vote near instantaneously, at minuscule cost, and as often as you want - so there's actually no need for an "elected representative".

In good old civil service fashion of course they will dig around for any possible justification they can fabricate after the event. The couple were already fostering the kids, and doing it very well! Fact is it should never have been any sort of factor in any decision and was downright loony left! So only 36% of the electorate now? Just give it a few more months!

They disappear into the budget of MyURL.co.uk - also a Nominet full member. Did you notice that we have always have the latest IP Board software, and often before it is released? That's because we often test bits prior to release... because... because... If you'd feel happier with a few ads, that can easily be arranged.

You mean like living in socialist Rotherham? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-20535008

...and in the news today: Xenophobic Germany or just a little common sense dawning on our partners in the cartel? To call UKIP xenophobic is the sort of disapplication of common sense that the PC left take refuge in. The sort of thing that the morons at Rotherham social services go in for - completely lost on them the fact that the children they were trying to separate from their UKIP supporting, loving, foster parents were in fact of Eastern European origin. Look up the meaning of the word xenophobic, because it doesn't mean what the extreme left want it to mean, and has a second meaning too!

Flattered by your concern Sym, and be reassured that circumstances are now entirely different. For a start we are no longer dependant on the solvency of a small US hosting company, and have no less than three geo-diverse servers on line these days two of which are in the UK and wholly owned. It's no longer a one-man show, and in fact it's as many people who want to come on board and do something. The position of "editor-in-chief" is still open if you want the job? But, be warned, the pay is poor. I'm very concious of the need to put things on a somewhat more formal basis, as so much that is Bedlington passes from pillar to post and sooner or later dies a death. That's not going to happen here even over my dead body! A community-run and civic resource it must always remain, far from the clutches of American megacorps, and - quite unlike our government - wholly democratic.
