It's hardly a demanding job but will while away the odd hour or two a week. Qualifications are some command of basic English, and a keen interest in local affairs. PM me if you want to give it a try. Good practice for an aspiring journalist, or one in between jobs (will look good on a CV), or someone retired but wanting to use their depth of experience to benefit the community.

A Tuesday announcement say the rumours. And, from multiple leaks, it's a 16:9 four-incher with a quad core ARM CPU for sure, and little in the way of styling changes. One change that will have even the fanboys moaning is the abandonment of the long established 30pin connector for a new 19pin one, thus rendering all accessories that depend on the 30pin connector obsolete! If this week then Sammy have bounced them into it by alerting the press to a product launch (maybe two) next week. Prior to this Apple had planned an October launch. The Sammy launch could be the Galaxy Note 2. If so they are now doing a lot better at the secrecy game than the guys in Cupertino.

At that time not only 110 Front Street East but no less than three other locations on Front Street East. Will get around to describing those real soon now. The only off-licence I can actually remember well from that era was half way along the Barrington Road. It was sufficiently remote that it didn't need to be too choosy about the age of its customers! This is indeed true! And well into the 1950's too!

I was once foolish enough to buy a Kodak digital camera - mind you at a huge discount. It's in the garage somewhere! Well.. so far I have ordered from Amazon twice, and twice cancelled the order within minutes. If only people took as long choosing a government as I do choosing the latest gismo the World would be an altogether better place (but filled with maddeningly indecisive people)! P.S. My spelling checker wants to change your "Instimatic" to Astigmatic. Maybe it too knows something about choosing cameras? But wasn't the Kodak marketing prefaced on the idea of them being Instant and automatic? And... I'd bet that Apple "owns" iMatic anyway - possibly a revolutionary new machine that SJ invented to wash clothes, before he went to meet his maker Chinese subcontractor.

This is relatively easy (at least in the one without the 'g' I used to play ): you count the number of times the shuttlemebob goes back without landing on the ground. Sometimes even I could manage more than four times against a modestly good player. World class players should be able to manage a tiny bit more than four max!

Every time I try to listen listen to my usual news sources just as soon as the word Olympic is half mentioned I get the message "Due to rights restrictions this part of the program is not available." repeated over and over. ...so... whilst I'm waiting patiently for the inevitable torrent of solid advice to roll in from the Bedders photographic lobby I've (quite literally) dusted off the ancient Canon G2 and am currently charging all three battery packs I found in a nearby box - at least two of which, quite amazingly, still seem to hold a decent charge. A few test pics look quite good in the viewfinder. It's a bit of a monster, but the glass up front is good, and the manual controls don't seem as fiddly as modern compacts or "bridge" cameras. Now, all I need is to figure a way to read CF on a modern laptop. Maybe it was the piece I saw quite recently of David Bailey, with his simple retro gear, being interviewed in a greasy spoon East London caf'? Maybe it's the time of year? Maybe it's all those near-endless gigabytes of storage bedlington.co.uk has just come into on it's new super-fast server? Maybe I'm just going gaga? But, if the photo bug hasn't worn of in a few weeks, I might just revisit those newfangled ultra zooms, looking for bargains at the quality end.

For the record in Foxy's picture: the shop just this side of the Northumberland Arms is James Millne (Jimmy Millne's) at 110 Front Street East. This was where Radio and later TV was supplied from. It was known as "The Cycle Shop" because it still sold cycle spares, and just about everything else hardware-wise. It also still saw a steady string of miners buying "carbide" (calcium carbide) for their helmet gas lamps about the time this was taken. This was scooped out of large oil drums and sold by the pound in heavy duty paper bags. Maybe the carbide was also used in early cycle lamps, but by this time they were all battery operated by the common 3 Volt Cycle Lamp Batteries. I also remember a sign saying "Needless to say you'll need needles." yup, not the sewing variety but your actual gramophone needles! Going out of fashion as the electric "pick-up" and amplifiers rendered them relics of the past, but still in some demand in those days of 78's (78 RPM Records). Other things on show, and in demand, would be sets of darts, and harmonicas (Horner?). I remember local darts players weighing darts in their hands and doing practice throws. You wanted high-tech - there were shelves of radio valves with type numbers going back to the year dot! Perhaps the only place you could get those in Bedlington. A "fashion expert" tells me this picture is 1958 or 1959, and that's about what I'd have guessed, if I'd not guessed a tiny bit earlier. So.. here we are already well into the 405 line TV era, with BBC TV (Channel 5) long established, and Tyne Tees TV (Channel 8) just starting, or getting ready to start.

aaawww..... I was going to do that! Better stick to what I'm really good at then... perl one, plain one.. Remember that those who show they can really deliver content get rapidly promoted to elite "Contributor" membership. That gives them unlimited storage space for their photos, and a whole chapter in the history of the World (as we know it, Jim). There's probably a gong, or a knighthood, in there somewhere too!
