  1. Steam Returns To The Blyth And Tyne

    Steam will once again return to the Blyth and Tyne With Nelpg (North East Locomotive presverstion group) aranging a Steam Rail Tour with one of there Locomotives, K1 class 2-6-0 62005

    with the Locomotive Coming back home. (was Based in North blyth shed)

    THE BLYTH SPIRIT – Saturday May 8th 2010

    NELPG Ltd is promoting the above titled railtour on Saturday 8th May which will see its K1 class 2-6-0 62005 revisiting some of its old BR haunts by traversing a number of freight lines in south east Northumberland, including a visit to Blyth where the locomotive was shedded in 1966.

    The train, diesel hauled, will pick up (and set down) passengers at Carnforth (pu 05:30 & sd 21:40*), Skipton (06:30 & 20:10), Leeds (07:15 & 19:25), York (07:45 & 18:55), Eaglescliffe (08:45 & 17:27) and Middlesbrough (09:25 & 17:10). Here the K1 will be attached for the steam section of over 140 miles, with the onward run via Stockton, Stillington and Ferryhill, before a quick dash up the East Coast Main Line to Tyne Yard, where the locomotive will take water. The route will then take the train through Newcastle and up the ECML to Benton Junction where it will branch off onto the Blyth and Tyne line to Newsham, Bedlington, and North Blyth. Here the train will reverse, the diesel hauling the train to Ashington via Freemans, Winning, and Marcheys House Junctions. Subject to confirmation it may be possible to continue as far as Lynemouth.

    The train will then reverse again, the K1 now leading back to Bedlington, where another reversal will take the train to Morpeth. Here passengers can alight as there will be a break of around 50 minutes while the train turns and the K1 takes water. From Morpeth the K1 heads down the ECML to Newcastle and Darlington before turning left to Eaglescliffe and back to Stockton (where it will reverse for the final time) and onto Middlesbrough. The K1 will then work the train back to York by itself, after taking water at Thornaby. From York the diesel will pilot the train back to Leeds, Skipton and Carnforth.

    Sound Good? i will Post Times of the Rail tour so everyone can goto there Local strech of line and see it pass by.

    Also there is a Roumer that the A1 Turst Locomotive TORNADO will make a pass though Bedlington in April i will keep you's posted.

    Yes it would be great to have the line open again, but I hope the pricing and timetabling will be adequate for everyone, for example the first train to Newcastle from Cramlington is 8.11am and is never big enough to accommodate the number of passengers, this is no good for people who start earlier or indeed work 8am-4pm shifts, or cleaners etc, some people like to go early, some people work later than 6pm when the train stops running, we need a service for the 21st century that operates within our 24hr society.

    Then of course there is the pricing, £6 return on Arriva buses from Bedlington, no good for families or couples, in Newcastle the £2.40 all day any bus is a great deal on Stagecoach, although this is not on every bus company, there is an apt bus called 'The Highwayman', the driver with his mask and gun of course :P.

    Additionally people like to go to Newcastle for a night out, drinking or going the Theatre, or late night shopping. If we are to get people out of their cars and onto public transport we need something that runs like the Metro.

    So I hope the powers at be listen to the views and opinions of the public who are going to use the service afterall.

    i completey agree....but this is down to the Railway Company running the Route, (Northern Rail) if the market is there they will follow though.

    and pricing is a issuie, with Buses and the routes they get money for running them, Arriva and rip offs compaired to stage coach and Go North East.

    the pricing will work out the same roughy (and Railways get goverment money for running trains, railway companys also get plentys if they run late) . but we'll see.

    about seating, yeah ive been on plenty trains and there packed (Ive been on them) they dont run old style sericves in the NE like they use to with a locomotive and coaches (nice long train with plenty room on local serivces only on the mainline) . if the trains are packed Northern Rail should Follow though with bigger (longer) trains to acomadate for the passengers and run more trains.

    Only Issuie is with Network Rail for running late trains, with the Blyth and Tyne Area having old signaling (which personal i think its better over all due to the nature of the line) is if Northern can make sure there going to make engouth money on these late routes to justicfy keeping all the Signal Boxes open, in thoery you could run Via Morpeth, meaning you need less signalboxes which need to be maned.

    Although depending if the boxes are going to be open Network rail could make freight movements later meaning more passenger trains during the day.

    its quite tricky, and there is alot of paper work rubbish to go though.

    there is a bright side to this if the B&T (blyth and Tyne) is we may start getting chater trains coming to the area (special trains ran by privite companys) which will birng tourisim to the area. also means chaters starting from this area.

    there are chaters that leave morpeth that go all over the UK, i went on one in 2007 to Oban for the day was great!

    so again meaning the people of Bedlington get the best out of new stations.

    (bit off topic but worth saying).

    so just think you goto Bedlington station say 5.30, 6.00am in the morning and by dinner time you could be in london, oban fortwillam or lincon for the christmas market or Festingog in wales.

    we still had one road out going to Stannington (via Nertherton) to the A1 but it doesnt mean anything that road is clear how are we ment to know, not like they put a sign up saying road closed. but at least there was a road out of Bedlington. and we werent completey cut off.

    one thing that gets me is, i agree with Merlin and that we shouldnt be left out or lower down on the list, but if the ploughs/gritters spend more time clearing here and less time on other roads whats the point. can't go anywhere if the roads esle where are blocked/closed.

    but i have a mate that works along side of the gritters and they worked none stop during this cold spell (24 horus a day) to make sure we werent snowed in, the counceil was giving the gritters flasks of soup and tea and told them not to come back till there shift was up.

    in yankie land, there bin lorrys are fitted with snow ploughs, which is a good idea, meaning bin men can get around and empty bins etc. maybe worth putting that idea into the counceil. although they've probley already thought of it. dont know to be hounest.

    why would backworth or Bewick give a damn, your right why would they i was just names places south north and west of Northumberland. no need for sarcasim to be houset, "just realised northumberland is huge" i was trying to explain the seer size of the task at hand. and compaired to durham where i go regulaur and have been snowed in!!! (20miles from Bedlington and snowed in) due to there crap gritters (motor way girtters and spread more grit on the foot path than the road) . we didnt do to bad over all there was always a main road open.

    Bullsh*t! Tesco's car park,the driver must of had a right laugh he made it like a go-kart track, I had to drive about 2 mile to get from one end of the car park to the other :blink: So you just realised that Northumberland is huge well I'm afraid to tell you this but it's been like that for years, and if you think that Backworth or Bewick give a damn about little old Bedlington Town you are seriously mistaken :D It's their job for gods sake, it's what we pay for and it should not have taken them as long to sort it! If they were hard working well it makes a change :o

    well i say ploughing the car park i'll correct myself, the road that goes around it. and i agree with you it is there job.

    The Blyth and Tyne Reopening got another say in the News Post Leader.

    From what I can tell with having contacts within the Rail Industry etc.

    Network Rail are having a proper look into the reopening (about time only took them few years!!) they've cancel the demolition of the Ashington Signal box which is important part of the Reopening. They were going to shut it originally due to it having no use any more, (there was the station and Junction to the open cast pit loading areas which is out of use for now....possibly getting reopened as well)

    The reopening of Bedlington and Ashington station would not take much, no re-signalling only the platforms need sorting and considing they've been out of use for 50 years now there in good nick. But for other stations would need more work.

    The Blyth and Tyne Chater that SENRUG did proves you don't need re-signalling of the line and it can be done with current signalling and working methods.

    It is mostly Network Rail not pulling there finger out and mountains of red tape that is within the Industry.

    Northern Rail the passenger Rail Company that Run alot of the North East Local Services still train there drivers on the Blyth and Tyne Route.

    Once every so often you may see the odd passenger train or the odd looking old Diesel Locomotive running around doing Driver Refreshers etc.

    So the reopen could happen fairly quickly but there is the normal amount of bull poop to get though 1st.

  8. New Cycle Route Work To Begin In February

    great to hear, the "black path" is in need of serouis repair work.

    and i wonder if they sort the flooding issuie whiles there at it, the path floods behind the hartlands estate, on the football field making people walk around the muddy foot ball pitch, seems bit daft to relay a new path for it to get ruined again.

    all it would take is a digger to make a trench along side to the alread exsiting drain farer down near the cemertery.

    can i lie few myths to rest.

    tescos havent bought the bank or traven, load of rubbish.

    im not being funny but when the leafets were givin out about he bigger store, they said propsed.......not comfirmed plans.

    from what i know when/if tescos expans the buildings on the front street will as they were and other ones tescos do own will be handed over to wansbeck busieness thing.

    personal i dont think the tescos expanstion will get built due to the bigger Morpeth store having the go ahead. why have 2 big tescos within 4-5miles within each other.

    they did a cracking job, the sent digger around the estate, freeing up the roads and then come along with a little tractor and ploughed the paths they done a cracking job. seen them doing this couple times.

    people morn on about it some times but people seem to froget Northumberland is HUGE streching from Backworth to Kielders to Bewick its a huge oporation sorting all the roads out and then to sort out the estates on top.

    they tractors were working late into the night when i finished work at 10.30 there was a tractor ploughing the Tescos Car park. got to say BIG thanks to the counciel and all the hard working people that helped to keep the regoin (most of the time) lol :lol:

    the subisiding road as you come in past the golf crouse is quite bad.

    where the ground is settling still from the open casting.

    tbh its quite handle....on the bus coming back from durham....fall alseep on the x31.........head ageisnt the window

    when you get near the golf crouse all a sudden BANG!!! as ya head is stottied off the window as a wake up call :blink:

    it would be GREAT if it happened Arriva Buses have ruined things one to many times by not turning up or being late.

    like couple weeks ago there was a Prtivite Chater Train around the Blyth and Tyne. (funnly engouth) i thought i'll get the ealry bus.

    never turned up

    ok....i'll get the next one, will get me to bedlington just in time to see it.

    it turned up 8 mintues late and truns out it was the bus that want ment to been there 30mins ago! :angry:
