Just a thought, but maybe we need a McDonalds-esque place. A place with a neat, uncluttered layout, somewhere reasonably big (elliots garage would be perfect) that filled this gap, rather than relying on massive chains who clearly aren't interested. There's nothing to stop an independent making a go of it, and ripping off McDonalds etc. There's stacks of places who do exactly the same in Newcastle (chillingham road a prime example)
