  1. I have spoken to council twice today regarding gritting.

Once was first thing this morning after nearly killing myself driving down the un gritted bank at atlee park.

On website claimed they will grit primary routes by 8 oclock but this never happened.

Secondly was to ask if they are planning to grit it tomorrow morning as i dont fancy trying to navigate it ungritted again.

I was assure it would be but we will see.

Strangely once I got past three horse shoes roads were gritted and clear of traffic............

  2. Well me and Mrs Wanderer made our way up the street this evening to A) assess our local and B) enjoy steak Tuesday.

However the Lion was packed and ther was no room for standing never mind sitting for a meal........

Slightly disappointed we decided to frequent an excellent local indian resteraunt and a local pub which has always been trading in the MARKET place.

On reflection it was good news to see Red lion so busy and reminded me of years gone by. The knock on effect meant me and Mrs wanderer ended up spending our hard earned monies in established business further down the street.

In my eyes a win win for the local economy. Been a long while since we went for a meal and had a drink on a school night........lol

Looking forward to frequenting the Red lion when slightly less busy but glad to see having a positive effect on rest of front street..........

  3. Here we go with that old defeatist attitude again (and, incidentally, if you think you'd get a starter for a fiver at any of those two venues you must be joking - you wouldn't get a slice of bread); why shouldn't Bedlington have a quality restaurant, serving great food (and it is great, really)? Are you of the opinion that 'as this is Bedlington Front Street' we should be limited to kebabs and takeaways? Furthermore, how much is a Pizza at Best Bite these days? How much is a kebab at Moby's? Compare what you pay there, and what you get, with what you pay and get at Accolade and you have to be a fool to realise you're being robbed at four quid for a doner!

Rather than dissing a place that charges what are - if you know what you're on about - very sensible prices indeed for excellent food, and rather than pouring scorn on a local couple who are attempting to make somethinf of themselves and move away from this 'but its only Bedlington' attitude, we should be championing a successful (very successful, in fact) and award winning business (best small restauarant in the north) that might just inspire others to open something that is not a hairdressers once in a while.

If you're willing to pay more than ten quid for four pints, I can't see why anyone should turn up their nose at the same price for the best meal you'll find in the locality.

    Well said!!!

Me and Mrs wanderer have been on a few rare occasions and the food is top quality and the owners are a delight.

You are quite right to point out that instead of 4 pints and a bag of chips you can get award winning resteraunt food in our town for the same price.

They are a great example of people using fresh local produce and are hopefully making a great success of their business and me and mrs wanderer wish them the best of luck!!!!

  4. Just recived letters to myself and Mrs wanderer that Barclays are closing at the end of November and our accounts are moving to Crammy. Yet another empty business premises along our depleted front street then..................

and what about the hundreds of older clients of the bank I bump into when i go there...........Cant see them happy about having to go to Manor walks or even worse............ Blyth!!!!

  5. "The usual, -17 overnight, warming to -12 this afternoon. Yesterday Winnipeg had a record -42 C. Now thats cold!"

And I bet the whole nation hasnt ground to a halt like the great British empire seems to have done in the last 24 hours with three inches of snow.

I have relatives in Germany and they just put the tank treads on their vehicles and get on with it.

I bet its the same in your neck of the woods, Joe!

  6. Just thought I would give an unofficial weather warning for all my fellow Bedlingtonions*.

BBC predict temeperatures as low as -6 in the early hours off tomorrow morning for NE22.

Good luck to any other poor sods who have to chisel away at their cars in the morning and then face the prospect of a fourty mile round trip to work like yours truly.

In all seriousness wrap up warm tonight!

*(except for joe. I assume -6 is a warm day round your way!)

  7. The gym seems a great name for a pub. I have drunk in many curiously named establishments, including the station, the post office, the bank, the dungeon, and the station (all of which owned by wetherspoon chain) prehaps we could start a new thread of strangest named pubs our regulars have drunk in. And no movies doesnt count.....!

  8. quote]in short, it has kept both myself and miss darn from your establishment for a quick bite to eat, as i can park no problem, and without worry of anyone clamping me, anywhere else that serves food in bedlington.

    Hear Hear!.

The same can be said for me and mrs wanderer.

Having read another thread on the board I think it will prob be the ridge farm the next time i feel a little peckish!

  9. Has anyone else had one of these wansbeck works leaflets thorough there door recently?.An invitation to go and discuss work education and training at various drop in centres. Cambois, The Station, Newbiggin but none in bedlington itself. Just wondering what others thought about this

  10. Hey lads, introducing the founding member of your fan club!!

;) brace yourselves for expanding heads when they read wanderers post!

I am not saying that i agree with everything they say. Just that they add abit of colour and frivolity to the discussions on this sight. i feel this board would be a less colourful place without their input which i think joe was trying to suggest. More interesting then malcolm roibinsons political rants. i love bedlington as much as the next man but honestly i sometimes feel that we are all being preached to......!

  11. "God forbid that I be condemned to listen to, or read only those with whom I agree

    .

I often find CK or Denzel, or several others a little mundane, or even boring. But I look forward to their opinions. They occasionally surprise, and delight me."

I find the colonel and denzels contributions to this community anything but boring. Indeed i find denzels sense of humour, helps to brighten my other wise dull days as i check the community every day. I have been accessing this site for almost a year and whilst i have not met either of the afore mentioned gentleman, calling these upstanding citizens boring and dull as joe has done is a little harsh. As far as i have seen denzel and the colonel epitomise the spirit of this site and of bedlington!!!

(This is my first post but will def not be my last as I have been riled into action by Joe)
