  1. Thank you I enjoyed your reply Wilson. I knew Eedie and Jack Henderson, they had a son, she was the school dinnerlady. Nice people. Could write more about them if you want. Best regards Keith Dixon
  2. Hello Wilson Enjoyed reading your post. We had a terrible week of rain here last week but hope your weather is better in France! I was born in 1953 in Cambois, we had a Wilson in our street (Lilly Wilson) but I forget the husbands name. Also a Foster Wilson in Gees Houses opposite us in Cowgate. It was a real old mining community which ended in 1968 when I was 15. I hadn't realised that the houses were 200 years old!! I am busy researching my family tree using the names Dixon (my own) Beldon, Long, and Woolett. My parents lived in Barrington/Netherton then Catholic row Bedlington before Cambois. I have yet to visit the Woodhorn Archives which look excellent, for the moment I am seeking information from the living! My folks were all coal miners but the coal mine closed at Cambois in 1968 and of course it was not the industry to go in, not the industry for me. I managed to get the O levels and on to Teacher Training College and taught for over 35 years (Biology, Computing at the end). It is good to have retired at 55! I like it mostly but don't have the spare cash I'd have liked, however, am property rich I suppose. England is in a hell of a state as you will have heard politically with all the cuts the future looks very bleak at the moment for the young. But it's a world wide thing as well. I was at Bedlington earlier last week looking for a grave and also visiting Catholic Row near the Salvation Army there. I now live in Tynemouth with my wife and my son Matthew is 28 and a computer technician. Well anyway I hope you enjoyed this message and perhaps you may know the names I mentioned or perhaps you have other questions. Have a great time Keith Dixon.
  3. Never mind, some info is turning up as I write, someone I didn't even know has been doing a family tree for the Beldon's I will speak to them next week! have a great day Keith Dixon. Names of interest Beldon, Woollet, Long, Dixon.
  4. Hello there! Thanks for that information regarding a Woollet. That could well be one of my relations as Woollet is quite an unusual name. My own family surname has always been Dixon, but my maternal grandmother was Ellen Woollet (who married a Beldon). So Brian Woollet wouldn't have been my brother as his surname wasn't Dixon, but he may well be a relative! Let's hope someone on here sees this and knows him and gets in touch with us all! On the topic of Barrington School my cousins' surname was HUNTER so I think Valerie HUNTER and Yvonne HUNTER will have gone to that school, Valerie would be nearer our ages and Yvonne a bit older. I would like to thank you again for getting in touch: I have been enjoying some pictures on this site of Barrington, as my mother lived about number 12 office row in 1922 to 1939 when she was married at aged 18. I visited Barrington in the 50's for a firework display to my auntie Betty's house so I do have experience of the pit village feeling, as indeed we all had a Cambois, I was in Cowgate, with the close communities. Talk again soon? Thanks for your useful imput. Keith Dixon.
  5. Hello Everyone I have so much enjoyed the pictures of Barrington/Bedlington. My grandfather was Thomas William Dixon, who was married to Mary Elizabeth Dixon (nee Long). After living at Netherton Colliery at 237 Yard Row with his wife he later moved (for some reason) to Catholic Row, Bedlington. He had been a Private in the 10th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers and then a Coal Miner. He had 3 children, Andrew Dixon (my father) born 1919 and two others, Mary (who married Dennis Burns) and Harold (who married Verona McCafeti. My mother was Gladys Beldon of 12 Office Row, Barrington, born in 1921 and she married my father Andrew Dixon in 1939 when she was 18 and he was 21. Her father was hugh Beldon a Colliery Stoneman. Her sisters Betty, brothers Sid and Harry. They lost their mother when the mother, Ellen (nee Woollett) was only 39 (my mother must have been about 14) from Cancer. Many of the above are no longer with us. I am now 58 and a retired teacher living in Tynemouth, but I am often in the area of my birth. Actually as a boy, born in 1953, I lived at Cowgate Street Cambois for about 18 years. I have enjoyed many of the photographs of Bedlington,Netherton and Barrington on this site. Thank you. I have a photo of the 10th Fusiliers but do not know which soldier is my grandfather. Sadly all of my grandparents were dead before I was born, as I was the youngest of 3, my sister Sheila was the oldest and my brother Brian next, then last of all me, 9 years later!. If I am ringing any bells I would be pleased to hear from anyone, especially with information regarding my grandparents on either side or guidance on where to get more info. Obviously I know about Woodhorn records office but Haven't got up there at this stage. Hoping for some replies have a great day. Allan Keith Dixon.
