lol. This is a window hinged from the top; it has two levers, one needs to turn left, the other - of course - right, and then you need to push. I have never seen her do it, but how else do I find it open when she is the only living thing in the house, and outside? Interesting about the knocking on window thing: I'm deaf - almost totally - and all my cats to date have learned the usual 'meow' won't wake me up, but standing on my face will. Feline sign language, I guess.

Hey Merc, go on u tube and put in "Simon's cat".

  2. Mrs Orloff (who used to work in HR) tells me that the ad has probably been approved because the ethnic groups mentioned are under represented in the organisation. If they are, such ads are allowed so that the organisation can bring their equality stats up to proportionate levels. Doesn't mean it's right, of course...

  3. I am just waiting for Columbia and Russia to realise  that all of our mines are closed, then the subsidies that the aforementioned governments applied to the price of their coal will be removed, and the price will soar. The same goes for steel. The Tories can't see further than their noses, unless it is to put more money into the rail network than it cost us to run when we owned it! But then again, quite a lot of Tory members have shares in the various rail companies, and the shareholders must of course be considered!!!

  4. I remember the grey diesel Bedford bus, but my favourite one they had was the Bedford model OB (coach) which had a petrol engine (4 litres) made about 1949 -1951, I can still remember that delightful wine as it gathered speed, due to that the Bedford OB remains my favourite commercial vehicle in all it's guises.

  5. Torwood 13, I gather that your Dad was a lorry owner/driver. If so it was my Mam, Doreen that used to clean for your Mam and slurp endless cups of tea when your Mam came up to our house to catch up on scandal probably. Hello to you by the way!

  6. You really couldn't make it up!  The Frog cabin staff ran away and locked themselves in a secure compartment and left it to the Yankees and a Brit to tackle the gunman.  Remember the last two big bunfights with Fritz when the Frogs scarpered and left it to the Brits and the Yankees to save their bacon.  That yellow-bellied cowardice gene must run through the Frenchie DNA.

Bang on Symptoms, tell it like it is.

  7. merc, if you are at your sisters on 12th July, there is a classic car meet at East Kirkby. They fire up "Just Jane" at this meet, this together with loads of classic cars is a good day out. I myself will be there with one of my classics.

  8. HPW, I remember Dodds, or T Dodds tranport named after the owner Tom Dodds. He lived at 5 Cambo Avenue. My Mum used to clean for Tom's wife Kath. His son was called Tom also, so he may still be around. Tom senior used to favour AEC trucks and I distinctly remember his 1950's Mammoth Major.

  9. A friend of mine from Ashington has had an Austin A30 van stolen at the weekend. It is in Westminster green and only has a drivers seat in it as they were sold in the 50's. I won't give the reg number as I think it would be a waste of time for obvious reasons. If anyone knows or hears of anything, please contact Police or me with info. Thank you for your help in this matter.
