  1. Is that you crossing the lines there Beddies?

Fascinating pictures. Its great looking back on our town,s "development" some good some bad but nontheless very interesting, thank you to ALL who put them on here.

  2. Not sure I ever saw a flag but the motto 'de profundis' was also the motto att Westridge school. It was found beneath the shield on the school badge and the mosaic shield that hung in the entrance hall. Both had a white cross of St.Cuthbert on a dark blue background. You can see the shield in some of the school photos in the gallery.

I knew I had or thought I had seen the words "de profundis" somewhere ............. Thank you Canny lass it was doing my heed in

  3. ONLY 3.5 million I would,nt bother getting out of bed for that amount, I get them for 20 million I obviously know richer scammers than you lol.

Scarey thing is there are those out there that actually believe this crap is it greed, gulability, naivety, or just plain stupid.

  4. What in the name of gods green earth do we export now?

I do my little bit, a part of my business allbeit a small part is that I supply materials that are exported to all corners of the world via a few of my larger customers and the bloody Chinese have the worst double standards of them all we import certain products that are turned around and sent back to them and the cheeky buggers have the ordasity to have the most stringent standards before they will accept it back as an import.

  5. The markets are ran by NCC, well put out for others to run some of them anyway. NCC carry their own liabilities as a matter of business as normal and that will cover them for the likes of markets. (Plus there is a big push to get markets re-established in Northumberland, it's part of the NCC regeneration strategy)

Trying to organise something like a Town Fayre is fraught with problems and in reality H&S is only one part. A community group trying to put on a Fayre has everything from risk assessment to PL insurance and they need a policy in place for each and every separate section as well. Policing, crowd control, stewarding, road closures etc. the list is almost endless and that's before you think about cost effective attractions to get people there.

Unfortunatly....... Enough said ..... But thank you once again for taking the time to reply...

  6. Yeah! I can just see the Multi Nationals breaking their necks to set up in The Ghost Town that is Bedlington!

Well Witherspoons are doing very well as are Tesco,s and Morrisons car park is invariably busy there,s building work going on all over the town, the town,s getting a well overdue makeover, the independant traders are still here ..... yes I,m fully aware of the history of Bedlington I have lived here all my life and yes we have for decades played second fiddle to Ashington, bliddy hell even Newbiggins had more investment than we have but that is down to the councilors in charge or not as in our case, I have even reffered to us as being a dormatory town, however I do believe things are looking up.

We are all entitled to an opinion, things in the world are tough and Bedlington is no exception.

The location of the Ridge Farm is a good one it has a good carpark the infrastructure is good, but its not a drinkers pub, it used to be a very good food establishment but its gone down hill over the years, I,m not fully converse with how it has been run but the reccomendations about the quality of food/service I have heard were not very good consequentally I took my business/hardearned elsewhere.

So yes we have in the past been the "Ghost Town" you reffer to but as I said I do think things are on the "up" its not an informed opinion just an observative one.

  7. Another nail in the coffin for one of our drinking places or not? Who in their right mind would take on the lease in the current financial, abyss - I suppose that the building could end up as a Rest Home!

Well it in my opinion was only mediocre with regards to food, I personally think Witherspoons will be kicking themselves as theres a good chance another one of the BIG players in the pub business of the same ilk will take it on.

  8. We used to ride our "bogeys" as we called them down Furnace Bank, and if you were really brave, the Hairpin. It was after the "New" bridge had been put in though. Mind you some vehicles still used both hills, you were just careful, (or daft). It's just like Malcoms piece said!!

Or RUN through the black bridge on those two planks which ran in parrallel to the railway tracks............mind you I,m not condoning that now .........or swinging from a rope tied to a branch overhanging the rockface on the way down to Humford baths (as was)... it must be at least 50 feet high... a mere step compared to that bloody bridge.......... lol

  9. I am not sure just how well thought through this is……..well apart from a bit of spin doctoring.

Self-funded traffic wardens……… and yes we all know where rich pickings will be for the first week or two then it will take financial masochists to keep parking there………if these wardens do a good job will they make themselves redundant?

The only possible way NCC can pay 26 new positions when they have cut over 1000 due to cost cutting is to find a new form of income to cover salaries. In other words parking fees in the South East.

BTW, there was a very interesting admission the other night at the Area Meeting, these new NCC wardens will only be able to ticket transgressions on double yellows…………so all of the other parking problems the cops do have authority to take action against these wardens can't target. Course that might explain the road variance orders we saw last year in the News Post Leader.

& our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world.

We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middle class, a huge manufacturing base, and Mum stayed home to raise the kids.

    What in the Hell happened?

Could it be the lying parasitic politicians wasting our money?

Oh, and don't forget the relatively new bank charges.

And we all know what we think of Bankers.

    Absolutely spot on

  10. It has went pass the north i think because i'm sure Chinchilla's has had their shop front done, but i agree with Foxy all the shop front that have been done up look great a big thanks to all the guys involved  . Mind I'm not a fan of the Purple and Cream on R&S Convenience, i would have like to see a crimson red and cream but that's just my opinion. As you can guess reading this Purples not one of my favourite colours .

You are indeed correct about Chinchillas and the purple and cream/yellow are the corporate colours of the stores suppliers I believe but you are right its a bit garish :dribble:

  11. The reason given why these headstones had to be checked is stone mason faults!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seems the pegs used by the stone masons are not strong or resilient enough.

So ya see it isn't the Coouncils fault after all...............

And if anyone believes that load of codswhallop......

To be honest my first comment to my mam when I was told about the problems in the cemetry was.........Quote.........

(GET THE BLOODY FOLKS BACK WHO GOT PAID TO DO THE JOB IN THE FIRST PLACE).............. My dad is up there as are two very good and dear departed friends.......my mam was devestated when she saw the mess when she went up to put flowers on my dads grave, but its good to see its been sorted out properly as it should be I may add.

But I dont think personaly that some individuals look upon a cemetary as a place that should be treat with respect, but thats another subject and unfortunatly a sign of the times.

  12. Like The new shop fronts on the main street are looking great, I've just noticed the similarity to the Wharton in the old days!!

BIG YES they are starting to look a lot more impressive than it used to (apart from that bliddy eye sore of a school  ).........is it going to be done all the way down the street past the North ?

  13. Petrol and diesel have dominated the news headlines over the last few days. This email update is to let you know our take on the situation and to ask you for a little help.

Here is how we see it:

The real 'fuel crisis' is not the current particular dispute between the tanker drivers and their employers. Important as it is to see this dispute resolved fairly and quickly, the real 'fuel crisis' is the scandalously high price that families and businesses are having to pay for petrol & diesel. This will be made worse by the fact that the Government waived through in the Budget another 16p a gallon in fuel taxes to hit us all this summer.

The reaction to the possible disruption to fuel supplies has surely showed the Government one thing …. PETROL & DIESEL ARE ABSOLUTELY VITAL TO FAMILIES, BUSINESSES AND THE ENTIRE ECONOMY. Our argument is that forcing up prices by increasing fuel duty is hurting families, damaging business and holding back growth. All our polling shows that fuel tax is the nation's number 1 priority and recent figures have showed that Britain's economy is hardly growing at all. The Government is investing hundreds of millions of pounds in 'job creation' to fight unemployment. As well as truly understanding the suffering that high petrol & diesel prices are causing, they need to listen to our research which clearly shows that CUTTING FUEL DUTY is the most effective way of creating jobs and boosting growth. If you have not done so already, please see the evidence at http://fairfueluk.com/cebr.html

Some people have asked why FairFuelUK doesn't support the idea of hauliers and farmers 'blockading' refineries and stopping the flow of fuel to protest about high prices. Please go to this link for a review of the Campaign's position.

Over the next few weeks, we will be fighting in Parliament to see the 16p a gallon increase, waived through in the Budget speech, scrapped and to make the Government see that it should be cutting fuel duty, not raising it!

We need your help to give us the power to make the politicians listen. We are fortunate to be supported by the RAC, the Road Haulage Association, the Freight Transport Association and The Fuelcard Company. On top of that, we have over 235,000 individual supporters like you. That figure of 235,000 is impressive – but it needs to be so much higher! This is where we need your help. There are 30 million motorists in the country. We need to spread the word to those millions of potential supporters that they don't need to go and 'blockade'. What they need to do is sign up to www.fairfueluk.com so that the Government realise they are facing a massive and growing movement of public opinion.

Please, as a matter of urgency do these three simple things:

    1. Please ask everyone you know to sign up to www.fairfuleuk.com – every extra signup (it's free and only takes a few seconds) really does make our argument more powerful. There's a simple copy and paste email below that you can send to your address book.

    2. Help us spread word of the campaign by a powerful showing of our 'CUT FUEL DUTY NOW' sticker campaign. You can order them here http://fairfueluk.co..._donations.html

    3. Please post your experiences and comments on our blog at http://fairfueluk.co...entins_blog.php so that we can see how the price of petrol & diesel are affecting you.

We had some success last year defeating over 9p per litre of rises in fuel duty. We were hugely disappointed that the chancellor ignored our calls in the recent Budget but with your help and support, the fight goes on!

    Kind regards,

    The FairFuelUK Team

Unbelievably, the Government is ploughing on with its plan to add another 16 a gallon in fuel taxes this summer. FairFuelUK needs to dramatically build up its supporter base to fight for this fuel tax rise to be scrapped. Signing up is free and takes just a few seconds. The campaign is backed by the RAC, The Fuelcard Company, and the two trade bodies that represent the UK's 20,000 leading road freight companies.

Does this government or ANY government for that matter not realise the cost of fuel is the lifeblood of the country and it effects ALL of us in all sorts of ways.

Its a knocking bet that if the costs keep rising it will cripple our economy and it WILL put thousands more on the dole..........

poor innocent casualties of GREED...........
