I agree it's similar to the Bebside Inn but the Inn has 3 upstairs windows. It might not even be a pub. Looks like a really old photo and I'm not sure the women featured would have gone into rough public houses in those days. The photo is one of only 4 unidentified pictures in Dad's collection so is probably a Bedlingtonshire building.

The lady in the front row with the child on her knee 3rd from right is Jean Rutter who lived at 34 Melrose Avenue near the Bank Top pub. I grew up next door to her. The child could be her daughter Catherine who now lives in Blyth. Jean was married to Jack Rutter who won local 'Britain in Bloom' competitions for his garden and was also a keen member of Cambois camera club and St Johns Ambulance Brigade. Sadly Jack & Jean are no longer alive.

It might just be my 51 and three quarters year old dodgy eyesight but can anyone name the pub. The sign looks like it ends with 'House'.

Haven't got a photograph of the Costain bridge but we came across this picture whilst searching. It might be of the opencast workers and someone might recognise some of them. Must be connected to Bedlington somehow.

Dad is certain it's Shiney Row with the Dr Pit at the far end.

He was actually called Joe Austin but was married to a Raisbeck, Eggy1948 - updated team list as follows - Back Row L-R, Don Draper, unknown, McCafferty, Billy Davison, unknown, unknown, Tom Pattie Front Row L-R, Ken Watson, Dobson (lived in Pioneer Tce), Joe Austin/Raisbeck, Dobson, Young.

Thanks for the help so far. Dad agrees that the YMCA picture was taken near Haig Road/Cornwall Crescent and is trying to contact someone in the picture to confirm this and to obtain a date (for the photo not for Valentines Day!!). He can't come up with a name for the B.I.R. team but the suggestions were excellent. One thing he did say about the photograph was that the lad sitting on the front right was called Hardy. Scouts came up to watch his brother play but ended up signing him instead and he went on to play professionally for either Cardiff or Swansea.

Keith, no problem with the photo. My Dad has the printed photograph but can't remember who gave him it as quite a few people have donated photos and other stuff to him over the years. Some of his collection is his own and some has been donated or taken from the internet. If you didn't take a photo then you must have got it somewhere and sharing this stuff helps with peoples collections and family research. We've added to his collection from this site so thanks to everyone who posts. Scanning all his photos has been great for me as I've learned some stuff about Bedlington which I was never aware of. I never knew Bedlington once had an athletics club and a swimming club. I never knew that bombs were dropped on Bedlington Station in WW2 or that Edward Prince of Wales once passed through the town in an open top car. Anyway enough waffling on from me. I've put out a feeler for someone to id the possible YMCA photo so here's another one for your ponderings which might be easy for someone. The team is a Bedlington Football Team which I think has my Grandfather Thomas Reed (Netherton and Dr Pit) standing second from the right in the back row (tall one). The inscription on the ball is B.I.R. 1912-13 but we don't know what B.I.R. stands for.

I posted the Whitley School and surrounding area picture a little while ago and agree that the houses look like Hollymount Square. I suppose the team photograph could have been taken at an away game which opens it up even further. The other YMCA team pictures in Dad's collection seem to have been taken at the old YMCA site opposite Melrose Villas in Bedlington Station. The strips are similar though.

Brilliant and thanks for the help everyone. My Dad recognised Albert Hayley and a couple of others who possibly moved to Westridge when they left the Whitley. Here's another one for you to have a look at. We think it's possibly a Bedlington Station YMCA team. The player at the front left is called Watson. I went to school with his daughter Ann.

Thanks. The dates are correct as they're on the football. I'll try to compare the building with some other team photos in his collection.

Finally finished scanning 800+ photographs of Bedlington related stuff including Cambois, Barrington, Netherton etc. There are about 6-8 which Dad can't name so any suggestions would be welcome. I've posted the first which he thinks is a Westridge School Football Team from 1952-53. Confirmation or any players names please.

Picture of Mr Charles Cruddas (centre) at a presentation of 50 year certificates. He was the manager at Doctor pit from the late 1930s. Could this be the Cruddas mentioned in the earlier post.

Thanks for the positive comment about the picture and thanks to others for their comments elsewhere. I'm scanning Dads old Bedlington photographs into my computer (675 so far and more albums keep appearing) and try to keep an eye out for any forums that I can add a picture to. He has pictures of Bedlington and the surrounding district covering places, individuals, groups, teams, schools etc with some dating back to early 1900s. I've sent a couple of pictures to individuals requesting info about their families via the members email contacts so will keep adding any I think might help on forums. He's got a few group/team pictures which he can't name so I'll be posting them with a request for help in naming them soon.

Scanning old Bedlington Photographs from Dads albums into my computer and reading the site at the same time I found this picture which is marked 'Bowers,The Neuk, Bedlington Market Place'.

I successfully appealed a few months ago when none of the machines were working in any of the car parks. There must have been hundreds of tickets issued and no doubt loads of people paid. The process is obviously computer generated. Loads of info online about the law and whether to pay up or not.

While scanning some old photos I noticed a couple of 'Photobombs' where outsiders manage to get in the background of pictures. The first one I saw was of Bedlington Station YMCA Football Team in 1937 where a bomber sneaks out from behind a tree. Then I found Bedlington Mission FC from 1912 - 1913 where some of the locals couldn't resist being involved. Anyone got an earlier example or any more recent ones?

Could this be the shortest Then/Now - Before/After photograph ? I think the date was 7th December 2003.

Parts of 'The Fast Show' with Paul Whitehouse & Caroline Ahearne were filmed on Station Rd in Ashington. The section where Whitehouse is walking quickly and the backdrop continually changes has lots of Ashington in the background. The sketch was later used in milk adverts. "I'nt milk brilliant".

Which building do you mean? The one to the left of the pub was Walter Wilsons grocers which eventually became Robsons newsagents (I think).

I've no idea of the date of the black and white picture. I think Bedlington Station was commonly known as Sleekburn. Not sure about the hearse either. The black and white picture is a copy of a colour postcard.
