  1. @Alan Edgar (Eggy1948) Thanks Alan, I did pick up on the dates- just a stab in the dark to see- partly on behalf of Keith Batey who has been looking at the Graves family recently. “Shy bairns get nowt “, x

  3. @Alan Edgar (Eggy1948)just sent the last message to the wrong Alan!! I’m looking for a photo of Granda John Graves and Rose Graves with dog (probably old English setter) beside the gate & Shiney Row which was apparently posted several years ago by “next step “, Keith Batey and I would love to see it if possible please? Also, are there any photos of West End juniors 64-68, please? Best regards, Roseanne 🌈x
  4. @Alanhi, Alan, I’m butting in here a bit because I’ve discovered another thread SawyerGraves (chele51) , all part of the Shiney Row Graves family. Apparently there was a photo of John and Rose Graves on this site a few years ago- is it still available, we’d love to see it if possible, please? Regards Roseanne
  5. @chele510Hello there, I’ve picked up on this because John Graves was my Granda and I have recently picked up Keith Batey and John Graves (3rd) on this site who are long lost cousins. Keith is the son of John Graves eldest daughter Mary and John is the son of John (Jack) Graves only son also John (lots of imagination in that family!) I’d like to help if I can? I’ve emailed Keith to let him know x
  6. @JohnboyHello there Johnboy, are you John and June Graves’ son? If so we’re cousins?
  7. Yup, that’s my Granda John Graves (married to Olive), of Shiney Row Bedlington, and great uncle George Sawyer who married Kath, they lived Sheldon, Birmingham. Didn’t know the others, sorry x
  8. Thank you very much, Andy, very grateful x
  9. Many thanks for this Mr Dickson, but I think the things I’m asking about are in the next field- they are concrete about 18” high and approx 5 feet in diameter, there’s a dark green door on top looks big enough for a man to get in. The green cabinets beside it is about 4 feet high and ?8-12 inches deep. I must remember to take my phone with me next time to take a pic. Regards, R
  10. Hello, while rummaging in Google for info on the concrete ?caps in the fields between the remains of Netherton colliery and Choppington I found this chain of chatter. Not at all surprised to find Messrs Fox and Edgar in the thick of it!😁x Checking if it’s still active and whether I can access it without Facebook which I have grown to dislike; is there anybody there? Yes, of course, Eggy’s there, the Wizard of Bedlington, ready to help and advise. x Walking towards the lonnen from old Netherton to Choppington there’s a field with several circular concrete things sticking up out of the ground with a ? trapdoor on top, plus a green metal caninet next door. ?? Something to do with the old mines? Please advise, anyone? Thanks xx
  11. Hello Keith, don’t think so but I’m regularly amazed by what my iPhone does without me knowing what it’s up to. I’m Roseanne, Dad was in the army and we arrived in Bedlington 1962/3. I remember visiting Nana and Granda Graves at Shiney Row (??27) regularly. I remember Auntie Mary and Uncle Harry vaguely, they weren’t around much and I only really knew I had cousins but don’t remember meeting. I was born 1957, Frank 59. I’m going to rummage for any photos I’ve got to send to you, but I haven’t got much. If you can locate my (sadly) estranged brother Frank- I’m sure he was the. ‘restart’ contact, that’s his line. I’m wondering whether Christine (was Tina back then) might have seen your post, she would definitely be the best person for photos etc. Chat soon x
  12. Hello there Keith Batey, Olive and John (Jack) Graves were my grandparents, lived in Shiney Row while he worked at the Doctor pit. My mother Rose was your Aunt, your mum Mary married Harry, my mum married Frank Hutton, Frank Hutton jr. is my brother (lives Blyth) and John Graves jr married June. There was also Tina who now lives at Ashington. I’m retired now and been back in Bedlington since 2018, I’d love to hear how you’re getting on, best regards,
  13. Many thanks kind Sir. As always you are very helpful and knowledgable. Best regards, R
