John Elliott and Hertford

John Elliott and Hertford were in the minority of farmers as most of the land was farmed by servile peasants. An ancient offering to St Giles hospital in Durham of a thrave of corn out of every ploughed field for the relief of pilgrims.

This was commuted to the sum of 9 shillings, payable within 15 days of the feast of St Michael.
