Celebrate...The Northumberland Miners’ Picnic: a fun, family day out rooted in local heritage reimagined with a contemporary twist! 

Enjoy... a fantastic programme of performance on our Bandstand Stage with Lindisfarne, Eliot Smith Dance Company, Brass Marras, Alistair Anderson & Friends and Rob Heron & the Teapad Orchestra. 

Discover... wonderful crafted goods, delicious food, drink and more from some of the region’s best makers in the Picnic Market located in our historic Workshop Galleries. 

Explore…Woodhorn Museum & the historic colliery site. Get creative at our pop-up art workshops and refuel at our café, food stalls and beer tent! 

Remember… the people, places and industry that brought us the tradition of the Northumberland Miners’ Picnic. The Miners' Memorial Service & Wreath Laying will take place from 10.15am.

10.00am – 5.00pm: Picnic Food & Craft Market, pop-up art workshops, street theatre, facepainting and more!

10.15am: Miners’ Memorial Service & Wreath Laying

Main Stage (Exact timings may be subject to change)

12.00pm: Lindisfarne

1.15pm: PITMAN (Eliot Smith Dance Company)

2.00pm: Brass Marras

3.00pm: Alistair Anderson & Friends

4.00pm: Rob Heron & the Teapad Orchestra

Bandstand Stage compered by Bread & Butter Theatre Company

Admission free, donations welcomed. 

Come prepared for all weathers & feel free to bring camping chairs or a picnic blanket to help set up a comfortable base for the day. 

Getting to the Picnic:

It's going to be a busy day, so if you can, why not consider walking to the event? 

Main Car Parking: at the former ALCAN/Rio Tinto site with Park & Ride service. Please follow signs. £3.50 per car. Please allow up to 20 minutes for transfer.

Blue Badge Parking: available at Woodhorn Museum £3.50 per car 

Ashington Shuttle Bus: A free shuttle bus will run from Ashington Leisure Centre Car Park, Lintonville Terrace. First departure at 10am, then every 30 minutes. Last bus leaves Woodhorn 5.30pm.

OTHER INFORMATION:

Assistance dogs are welcome at Woodhorn, but family pets are not permitted within the fenced museum area. Please leave pets at home.

Smoking & Vaping are not permitted within the museum site.
