Morpeth Or Northumbrian Gathering

Featured Replies

Yesterday in Morpeth reminded me of Bedlington and the Miners Picnic.

Parades, folk groups even a band playing in the park.

No political arguments.

If bored there was also an auction at Louis Johnsons

I was at Morpeth with Maria today and we saw a quaint thing - some of the shops had old photos in the window showing you what the shop looked like decades and decades ago.

Maybe this idea could be used in Bedlington.

Sadly there are not that many shops left.

...and most of the ones that are still here are probably just surviving - what is there in Bedlington to attract people to visit (and spend money)

As Part of the Bedlington Heritage Project.

Story will be in the history section.

Many thanks to the Fox for supplying me with the pics.

Great piece of work! I'd like to know more about the building on the right of the first image; is this now the dentist's?

Where the dentist now is, but I don't think it is the same building (Burdon House I've just been told), and the building-line seems to have changed a bit. If you look to the left of it there is no sign of the Clovelly Garden's entrance. Wasn't that developed by Adcocks the builders much later - so likely that whole bit was "remodelled" then.

Don't the phone poles look amazing? No conservation area status there then?! :)

The video is a great effort, but the indoor resonance sounds (particularly on the landings) spoil it a tiny bit. Next effort needs some dull outdoor sound dubbed into the audio to do the fine acting full justice. Maybe a bit of horses' hooves background noise too - otherwise very imaginative. :)

Burdon House is behind the dentist's, accessed by a pathetically narrow drive. It was built in 1912 as a nurses' home and is now my daughter's family's house. The dentist's is in a silly plce.
