alison Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 I tried out the new path down the picnic field this weekend. Good idea to stay safe, away from the main road and a lovely walk too. 2
Malcolm Robinson Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 Exactly the reasoning behind it alison.
alison Posted June 14, 2015 Author Report Posted June 14, 2015 loving the seats too - hope it's being well used
Malcolm Robinson Posted June 14, 2015 Report Posted June 14, 2015 The responce has all been very positive. There is a new little extension and soon there will be more seats and waste bins. In time there will also be a variegated bulb planting going in along the new path.

HIGH PIT WILMA Posted June 15, 2015 Report Posted June 15, 2015 Haven't been doon for a month or two, heard aboot it from me next door neighbour, hoo far does it go?It used ti tek yi reet ti the steppy-styens,and my Wife could manage it in her mobility scooter,a few years ago,but of late,it is a total impossibility.Hope the plan is to renew the whole path eventually, mind there's a certain fraternity intent on destruction, and look what they did to the nice picnic tables doon at Cambois, and other places.Aal be up ti me owld childhood haunt in a few days time ,hopefully, and aal check the path oot,for suitability for the scooter. The river Wansbeck path is also restricting to sufferer's of spinal pain, when using scooter's,as the vibration on the rough areas make travellingvery difficult, otherwise most of the path is a lovely walk/ride.The Bedlington "Free" woods is,and always was my favorite place to be as a child!
Canny lass Posted June 15, 2015 Report Posted June 15, 2015 That looks absolutely lovely! Good initiative. Well done.
mercuryg Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 Looks great but am having trouble with the geography here! Say I'm walking from Front Street to the Big Event next weekend, how do I access this path to avoid having to walk on the road?
Malcolm Robinson Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 Keep to the right merc, keep to the right! You really can't miss it!
mercuryg Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 Ok Malcolm, thank you, I may walk down later and have a look!
Roger Neilson Posted June 25, 2015 Report Posted June 25, 2015 This looks great, will be trying it out as soon as I can clear my long 'to do list. 1

Brett Posted August 17, 2015 Report Posted August 17, 2015 Hello Friends, looking at this I'm ashamed to ask if the Picnic is still up and running? if so can you please tell me the Date of 2016 Do please, as I will sort a few days back home around it. Thank You. Hi Seamus, the picnic itself is unfortunately not still happening but there has been The Big Event for the past few years which has been a great success and hugely popular. Generally around the third week in June as it always lands on my anniversary.
Malcolm Robinson Posted August 18, 2015 Report Posted August 18, 2015 Its the longest day weekend Brett.......if that makes sense! And seamus if you want to go to Bedlington Picnic you have to go to Ashington these days! Far better come to Bedlington Street Fair........on this weekend.
Tezmarez Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 It's a nice path and I use it regularly, only thing I'd say is it needs the vegetation cut back a bit near the top where it first enters the trees as the path is now very narrow due to the overgrown plants etc
Malcolm Robinson Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 Just been cut back Tez.........
