Anyone know the reason for large police presence at Atlee Park and 3 unmarked cars that flew down Front street at 09:45.

No idea, but I've noticed an unmarked orange Kia in the area quite a few times over the last 2 or 3 months and also an unmarked black Audi.

I've heard there were many armed coppers there  - no idea what it was all about.

Can't even rubber-neck cos the road is closed. Drove down Front Street last Monday heading for Horton and had to take diversion at the Market Place as Bedlington Bank closed and when I tried again today - still closed. Can't find anything on the www.

The only info I can find on the roadworks is from http://northumberland.roadworks.org/

Move the map, zoom in, and hover your mouse over the roadworks icons to get a description of the work being carried out. Seems to be for anti-skid work and bend warning sign improvements.

I think they ewere searching for the man who was missing from Cramlington, sadly he was a day or so later found dead near Arcot .

I've since found out that the threes unmarked cars were involved in a high speed pursuit. I've also heard that the large police presence was possibly related to the sighting of someone carrying a machete.
