@Julgil - The North east war Diaries are held at the Woodhorn Museum. John Krzyzanowski (Admin of Facebook group Bygone Bedlington) posted this extract from the diaries :- 

 

As the museum is currently closed thought we would have to wait until it reopened for John to check out your info but Brian Jenkinson commented that the diaries were online so I had a look and found the entry for 1st September 1941 :-
