I think we can do that now some people have some established reputation. The main issue is the people who like to give negative rep are usually more active than those giving praise. The only way to stop this would be to maybe limit the number of negative reps per day? and block/warn anybody that abuses it? I'll bring it back as a trial run.2 points

Ho Sanderson, the property developer who was behind Hartford Hall Estate, has died after being hit by a train: My link His businesses had been placed in admininstration after Wansbeck Council pursued a prosecution in connection with flouting planning laws in relation to his redevelopment of the Hartford Hall. I wonder if the Hall gates will ever be replaced?2 points

Each individual can make their own mind up whether they like a post or not, so if someone receives a neg off another member, it doesn`t mean a different member would perceive the original poster as a one to avoid (so to speak) Basically, negs have no meaning to anyone other than the person that gave the neg (other than the person who received it) So that makes the neg system pointless in my eyes. It doesn`t show anything what-so-ever, only that someone is huffing on and negging folk. Infact, i`m beginning to think about the rep system altogether. What exactly is the point of it? It`s beginning to sound like a scoring system of some kind. Everyone should be equal on here, regardless of their views. This is a forum for the people of Bedlington and beyond, a gathering place where we can all get together and share our views, have a bit banter etc, not a place to `oust` the un-populars1 point

How clean & tidy it all looks! It's a bit spooky to discover old buildings that I've no memory of, or the disappointment of old haunts flattened for horrible modern replacements. The 'Grassy Knoll' outside the 'old' Council Offices & SS at the top of Front St is unchanged ... happy memories of chucking stink-bombs (bought in Millne's store) from there into the marching bands and crowds on Picnic Day. We'd then leg-it down The Cut (at the back of the Council Offices) being chased by pit-men in their best suites & flat caps ... ah, happy days.1 point

Unfortunately you are right! Formatting all over the place in Open Office! Can't we persuade them to put it out as a standard .PDF? A prior requirement to buy, or steal, a £300 proprietary software package can't be the best way to present the face of law & order! Someone needs to point out the Public Notices section to them too I think. The concept of "free" might take a little explaining.1 point

I remember when on a Sunday all of us as teenagers went to moskies at the 'station' where we could meet and chat as long as we bought a frothy coffee or a bottle of Pepsi. I know I'm living in the past but I do understand that there is nowhere for the kids to hang out apart from the streets. We had the Y.M.C.A to go to as a youth club and actually met lads or lasses that went on to be their husband or wife. I don't know if it would work now but surely they could try for them. Of course it would have to be run by someone the kids would respect and not be old fashioned as the kids are a lot more clued up than we were in our day.1 point

There are to many do-gooders now. I think there is a big difference in disciplining a child and abusing a one.. We are talking about a smack here not a full blown assault lets get this right. I think the kids have decided that they are in charge because they are not taught that its their responsibility if the've done wrong and thats because everyone is frightened to do anything about it as it's their so called rights. I don't think there is anything wrong in having a reason to be afraid that a smack will happen if bad behavior is happening child line and ethser rantzen has a lot to answer for.1 point

It's been described as a tragic accident, which I can understand. I think the crossing involved doesn't have any barriers, only lights, so it'd be quite easy to be caught out when a train's approaching.1 point

There is a VERY brief questions and answers session at the beginning of the meeting so come prepared. Which can be extended if the chairman sees fit! The problem here is that the powers of a parish/town council are pretty limited, certainly within the context of what we are talking about , which is essentially social/economic regeneration whose remit is essentially a County Council one. Much better to 'lobby' at the Area meetings where most if not all county councillors and a lot of officers attend. Having said that the town council do have a route to take their community's concerns further up the ladder and lets not forget the Mayor and vice Mayor are county councillors as well! There is another comparable community route and that is through the Partnership meetings, so if the politics puts anyone off you are still able to progress your cause in a non political environment.1 point

Great heads-up mobius. But in case we get accused of putting the wrong spin on this that's not quite what The Journal reporter implies. This would indicate a voluntary liquidation. There's also the implication that individuals and not these companies were being prosecuted, and that Wansbeck gave up pursuing the matter for other reasons. So there's nothing in The Journal, or here, to say anyone did anything criminal, or even that there were any civil penalties imposed. Nice sensitive remark for his family to see Monsta! Who will ever be able to say for sure what his state of mind or health was? It could well be that he was preoccupied and didn't see the train coming, or suffered some kind of medical emergency in the wrong place at the wrong time. Stranger things have happened.1 point

I am very heartened about all the replies I have had to my post. I am disabled, but if I can attend I will. Perhaps it is time to act with our feet, or in my case lack of them, and vote for a change, before we get more of the same.1 point

I know you are a fan of Gandhi (http://www.bedlingto...irthday-gandhi/) maybe he can convince you. "when people lead, governments will follow." - Monsta's Mate1 point

I actually sent an email in connection with the gates this morning. That is very unfortunate timing. I hope the recipient doesn't think the latest news is was what prompted me to email.1 point

Just trying to prepare her for the inevitable disillusion Malc. As she's already worked out let's all hold hands and make the world a better place isn't a viable strategy, but neither is writing to a "big-party" politician in the run-up to a general election! You've identified one positive thing an individual can do. Why not take this further and prepare a checklist of things a caring Bedlingtonian can do that will make a difference? BTW for those "big-party politicians" reading this I'd like to add that I'm not against them and their efforts. What I'm against is their putting party politics before community. Not having the guts to debate the real issues with the community - an ever-increasing number of whom are not as dumb as their party bosses suppose. That's not true of all local politicians of course, and I don't need to elaborate on this. Times they are a changin, and those that keep their heads down and don't directly engage and take to the new electronic hustings are going to go the way of the dinosaurs. They'd actualy get a much easier ride - and probably pick up quite a lot of votes - if they came clean and explained their own frustrations earlier rather than later.1 point

I too wish to applaud the initiative shown but as GGGG says to what outcome? There are a couple of people trying to get a new project off the ground at the moment which should start to address ALL the concerns wrote about on this topic. This is a community owned project which should be able to focus 100% of it's attention on what the people who make up our community want to see happen. There are a few more't's to cross and 'i's to dot then we will be asking YOU for your concerns, hopes and aspirations for the town and surrounding area. We would certainly be asking everyone who signs up to your face book campaign to at least support the idea. It would be a whole lot easier if a few more people went to the community meetings where this stuff is talked about. In fact your face book initiative was mentioned at the last meeting! BTW, there will be a presentation on 25th March at the community centre by the people commissioned to do a feasibility study on possible new community/sports facilities in Bedlington. Again this is independent of council, a community group commissioned the report. I hope everyone can see with a bit of combined effort we can start to make a difference.1 point

There's probably no-one here who hasn't seen Cerebus, the blue aardvark who has graced the concrete wall of the bridge over the spine road for over 20 years. see photo here Well, never say the Council don't get their man - he's now been painted over. A terrible shame.1 point
-
I've just walked past it and didn't take a photo, sorry. Will next time I pass. It's got some "good" graffiti and some pointless scrawling over the top of it. Pretty sure there's an aardvark in there.1 point

I actually agree! it is a shame. There's a fine line between Graffitti and Art. Something thats been there for so long as Graffitti, and has had no complaints, should have been left alone in my eyes. Then again, perhaps someone complained?? Myself, i liked it. I think it should have stayed.1 point

Perhaps its time to introduce a negative post recomendation, instead of just a positive. The fact that comment and others comes from a forum moderator with excelent reputation as far as this board is concerned (64 at the time of posting) does not give a very good impression in my eyes.0 points
