That's the way it works Mr D. Thing is for you to be able to 'have your say' then Monsta has to be able to have his too, however objectionable anyone finds it. (Within the rules of the board anyway, and also irrespective of his standing.)4 points

I go to Tesco and Netto as I don't drive. I do have to travel every week or so for things I can't buy in these stores. The trouble with Tesco is, they get stuff in you use and then they delete it! you ask and they say they will get it back in...it scarecly happens! I don't think Asda pans out any cheaper than Tesco or Netto - it's just the lack of variety! The library could do with an update, and what goes on in the community centre? we never hear of anything? And my kids use the parks!2 points

Lets hope there are no greater spotted newts or four leaved clovers on the gap site... that is about all it takes for the council to reject the planning permission... It's only taken 8 years to get permission for the old school! For goodness sake... if anyone from the Council reads this... do the right thing and approve the application quickly before Tesco change their mind!!!2 points

Each individual can make their own mind up whether they like a post or not, so if someone receives a neg off another member, it doesn`t mean a different member would perceive the original poster as a one to avoid (so to speak) Basically, negs have no meaning to anyone other than the person that gave the neg (other than the person who received it) So that makes the neg system pointless in my eyes. It doesn`t show anything what-so-ever, only that someone is huffing on and negging folk. Infact, i`m beginning to think about the rep system altogether. What exactly is the point of it? It`s beginning to sound like a scoring system of some kind. Everyone should be equal on here, regardless of their views. This is a forum for the people of Bedlington and beyond, a gathering place where we can all get together and share our views, have a bit banter etc, not a place to `oust` the un-populars2 points

Thats a great idea to have a large scale town map in the Market Place. All communities that wish to point visitors to points of interest have them as it encourages visitors to stay and hopefully spend some money.1 point

This is good! This is positive negativity! I can feel a "Are you listening to your customers, or are you a Dinosaur?" ...feature coming on. I've heard more or less the same about Asda-Tesco from Mrs threegee - so it must be true! Maybe Tesco is ahead of the game and is now in the process of fixing this? Library? Well... silly jobsworths I think. Here we are lobbying like hell to save their arses, and when we ask them to stick a couple of little Bedlington.co.uk flyers up by the computers we are told they "don't do that sort of thing"! If they aren't there for the very community that pays their wages what exactly are they there for? Maybe what we should be lobbying for is a change in management?1 point

this is bedlington.co.uk not E.B.A.Y whats next feedback from those who disagree ? am not selling out so why do i need rep? should the person who disagrees with the post not post them selves saying why they disagree? rather than an annonymous hate button for people to abuse!1 point

Why it's there: The system was originally devised as a way to flag-up those quality posts that are worth spending a little time reading. Even the moderators don't have time to read everything. Through this it tends to encourage quality postings, and discourage slanging matches, where both parties generally get voted down - unless one party is grossly out of line. We often get the odd prat who emails something like "I'd join in if you removed some of the idiots" and by implication ran the thing more responsibly. Also implying that their opinion has far more weight than anyone else's (but they don't want to risk ther cosy prejudices being challenged). Of course if the moderator's cow-towed to them they most likely wouldn't, and probably have nothing worth saying anyway. But to those people the rep system illustrates that what's already there has stood the test of mass approval, and that it's they who are the odd ones out! Personally speaking: I broadly agree with Mr D. Except I try to apply the has it been helpful to anyone and has it made me think tests, before I apply the do I agree with it test. Two out of three generally gets it. On negative I suppose it has to be the opposite, though I'd immediately vote down anything abusive of someone else, especially when it was unprovoked by personal remarks. And finally: To sum it up I'd say that the rep system - although originally devised to flag what was worth spending time reading - sort of fully democratises the moderation process, and adds a bit of social pressure to ensure better behaviour (why I'm going to vote -rep stays). Because a lot of members know who a lot of members are there's very little for the moderators to do anyway. The only problem seems to be that not enough members are aware of it. Maybe a red button will make them use the green one too?1 point

People who want to get up with a geetar and sing a song. It's what some people find enjoyable. I dare say you could turn up and rant!1 point

You'd have had a hard job to make it, as it was at the Black Bull. The buskers night at the Tavern used to be worth a visit and was well attended; gemma - who is running the one at the Bull - seemed to have a good crowd in last night although I couldn't stay. If you like a bit of live music they are generally a good laugh.1 point

As long as it sells socks and knickers..............???????? Whenever someone writes into the NPL or gets on a soap box about the lack of shopping facilities in Bedders they ALWAYS say they can't even buy a pair of socks or knickers......I am beginning to wonder why the townsfolk have such a high turnover of their smalls.1 point

How clean & tidy it all looks! It's a bit spooky to discover old buildings that I've no memory of, or the disappointment of old haunts flattened for horrible modern replacements. The 'Grassy Knoll' outside the 'old' Council Offices & SS at the top of Front St is unchanged ... happy memories of chucking stink-bombs (bought in Millne's store) from there into the marching bands and crowds on Picnic Day. We'd then leg-it down The Cut (at the back of the Council Offices) being chased by pit-men in their best suites & flat caps ... ah, happy days.1 point

I remember when on a Sunday all of us as teenagers went to moskies at the 'station' where we could meet and chat as long as we bought a frothy coffee or a bottle of Pepsi. I know I'm living in the past but I do understand that there is nowhere for the kids to hang out apart from the streets. We had the Y.M.C.A to go to as a youth club and actually met lads or lasses that went on to be their husband or wife. I don't know if it would work now but surely they could try for them. Of course it would have to be run by someone the kids would respect and not be old fashioned as the kids are a lot more clued up than we were in our day.1 point

There are to many do-gooders now. I think there is a big difference in disciplining a child and abusing a one.. We are talking about a smack here not a full blown assault lets get this right. I think the kids have decided that they are in charge because they are not taught that its their responsibility if the've done wrong and thats because everyone is frightened to do anything about it as it's their so called rights. I don't think there is anything wrong in having a reason to be afraid that a smack will happen if bad behavior is happening child line and ethser rantzen has a lot to answer for.1 point

There is a VERY brief questions and answers session at the beginning of the meeting so come prepared. Which can be extended if the chairman sees fit! The problem here is that the powers of a parish/town council are pretty limited, certainly within the context of what we are talking about , which is essentially social/economic regeneration whose remit is essentially a County Council one. Much better to 'lobby' at the Area meetings where most if not all county councillors and a lot of officers attend. Having said that the town council do have a route to take their community's concerns further up the ladder and lets not forget the Mayor and vice Mayor are county councillors as well! There is another comparable community route and that is through the Partnership meetings, so if the politics puts anyone off you are still able to progress your cause in a non political environment.1 point

i totally agree, but if there is going to be a positive rep, there has to be a negative. This way just allows the members to show disaproval of a post in particular, without having that users post removed by using the report feature. It keeps peoples views on the forum, but allows everyone to see what the 'general' feel of that post is. (it may have kept Mongo on the forum!!) anyone else got a view?0 points

Can you see who is giving rep etc? and is there an option to suspend a users 'repping' ability if they misuse it?0 points
