  1. Well this was a blast from the past. Plum forgot that I actually worked with Big Bill Thompson at Wilkinson Sword during the 70s at the time magpies were on the 74 cup run. Real Quiet Bill and I suppose he didn't like talking about his time as he must have had many wanting to ask him same old questions. He was a real tough player though. Hope he is still around and in good health.

  2. To the best of my knowledge the only person from Bedlington to play for Newcastle United was Bill Thompson. He lived behind the Terrier's football pitch (I think it was Lily Avenue). He attended the Whitley Memorial School and played for East Northumberland and was signed up by Newcastle United Juniors in 1955 and his first game for the senior team was in 1960. He played at centre half for the Newcastle United first team for 10 years and was in the England under 23 squad but could not not play any games due to injury. Hid brother Jimmy played for Bedlington Dr Pit Welfare.

  4. #2 Read/Unread Content When you are logged in, the website will automatically keep track of read and unread content and display it to you in different ways depending on the status. Links to content that you have not read will show with bold titles and include an unread marker like so... The first topic here is unread and the second is read. Clicking/tapping the circle on the left of the title will take you to the first unread post so you can pick up the conversation from where you left off. Clicking the title will take you to the first post in the topic in case you need to refresh your memory. When viewing the topic a blue horizontal marker will indicate where the old read content finishes and the unread content starts. If the blue circle is replaced by a star it also means you have previously posted in the topic. In the example below I have posted in both topics but the bold title and highlighted star indicate there is unread content. You can see an overview of all of your unread content using the filters on the home page...

  5. Eggy & Pete, I don't ever recall Bedlington Mechanics FC playing in anything other than Red Shirts (with white sleeves) and White Shorts. Looking at this b&w photo with the footballers coloured in I would hazzard a guess to say this was probably in the 1940's (maybe even War-Time or could be TA Reservists) and that most of them are Bedlington lads. Perhaps the footballers may have been amongst the ones who started Bedlington Mechanics when they were formed in May 1949.

  6. Bedlington Town FC, a local sporting club run by volunteers, have today announced that plans for a new full size floodlit 3G sports surface are in the late stages of development. It is reported that all of the required funding has been secured. The club which achieved FA Charter Standard soon after its formation in 2010 has grown quickly with over 300 youngsters now part of the club. The players are a range of girls and boys teams between under 7 and under 18 years, with each squad competing in local leagues under the guidance of fully-qualified volunteer coaches. The club also now have a senior team competing in the Northern Alliance League. Updates regarding the status of the pitch development will follow.
