  1. there are programs out there that will allow individual folders to be encrypted and passworded.

this program must be on each computer that the files will be needed on.

one that i use is AxCrypt. its free and does what i want it to do.

in responce to threegee... i have a simple method for remembering passwords, yet my passwords are regarded very secure by sites that use security meters.

in a simpler form, i take 2 5 digit words i'll remember, and a phone number.

i type the first in caps, then return to the start, type the second in lowercase, inbetween each capital, then i insert the phone number inbetween each letter, so:

    apple, grape and 01670821234 becomes

    0A1g6P7r0P8a2L1p2E3e4

    via :

    "APPLE"

back to the start and type grape, using the right arrow key between each letter:

    AgPrPaLpEe

back to the start and type 01670821234, using the right arrow key between each letter:

    0A1g6P7r0P8a2L1p2E3e4

Appologies to the user of tel no 821234... i just made it up! ;)

thank you mr darn for your help sir. that tel no is the one for the box outside the bank lol :P:P:D

  2. A misunderstanding here: If you are removing the data from the machine it will have to be encrypted *somehow* else someone else will be able to get at it. Password protecting access to a machine or access to a file system subdirectory doesn't automatically protect the data the in files.

i.e. In this context password protection = encryption.

If you are remembering these passwords they must have a simple scheme that won't be very secure. Hope these files aren't your bank account details! :D

One of the principals of security is that you build the biggest strongest safe for everything, and not hide things in lots of lightweight safes. It's a more effective use of available resources.

is it possible to have different passwords for each file or is it not advisable?

  3. It would be useful to know why you want to do this as there could be a better way.

It's nearly always useful to know what operating system you are using.

Are you expecting the OS to do this or using (or intending to use) an encryption utility?

Do you intend the files to be decrypted on the same or on different machines?

If answer to last question is different machines are these machines on the same private network?

On a pratical note: How do you propose to remember all these passwords?

And.. any question touching on security needs to consider how strong that security is expected, or needs, to be.

P.S. I'd like to place money on the moderator moving this thread into the Computer Answers forum. ;)

sorry threegee my mistake for placing this in the wrong place.

    i am running WINDOWS XP

no encryption only a simple password that only i know.

i have a cunning plan to remember passwords

  4. surely couldn't have been as long as 30 years ago (i'm 31 and i still have memories of being on the roof, so couldn't have been much younger than 5-6) but i cant remember it actually being used.

    i'm pleased i wasn't imagining it lol

quite a big paper round was it mr darn :lol::P

  5. can anybody tell me who the gig was in the tavern last night. i thought they were the best they have had for a long time. its nice to go somewhere now and listen to good easy listening music. alabeit it wasan't as busy as it could have been last night but thats the sign of the times i think. can anybody also tell me when are the lights going to get activated in the mens toilets. its as dark as a pair of gorillas goolies in there hence to say i need to put my trainers in the wash this morning.

its also nice to go back in time and see that the smoking ban hasn't reached bedlington as yet. i think with my trainers will go all the clothes i wore because they stink of smoke but saying that a good night was had by all and hats off to the barman (mark i think) for handling the bar on his own without any help from anybody else. :D:D

  6. I was having a chat today that stirred some old memories.....

Can anyone else remember a small church like building at the entrance to West Lea cemetary? and if so, anyone got pictures?

i seem to remember climbing on the roof of this building as a young'un to get a better shot with my 'conker stick'!

    anyone got any info?

can u remember that far back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Joe & Sandra?

Give me a clue who they are and i`ll ask them when i see them :D

I was in The Sun on Friday night, i don`t usually go to The Sun but i thought i`d go there and see what it was like..i wish i hadn`t bothered..it was stinking of pee or something, i couldn`t quite place it?

There was about 6 people in, one was comatosed on a bar stool but still managing to get off the barstool every 2 minutes and bounce off the nearby bandit a few times, it was a bit like watching a human pinball machine..

I then went to The Northumberland, another place i haven`t been to in yonks..it was full of students drinking Stella..full meaning about 10 people as The North is so small  They were a great bunch though :D

joe is the landlord of the sun inn and sandra is the landlady of the black bull.

i think the sun inn doesnt smell half as bad as other pubs in bedlington. the market tavern and the grapes come to mind. all beit that the grapes have faulty drains but the market tavern, i think there is no escuse.

  8. I heard planning was in and had been passed to build care home for the elderly?.

Wish they would start the work, it would be an improvement to what it looks like now, the same goes for the old church school that's an eyesore too.

is the old school church grounds going to be a small housing estate? :o:o;)

  9. :)

where did that come from? a reliable source or rumour?

i heard this a few moths ago, and was assured it wasn't the case.

    has things changed?

as you know Mr darn i am a man of my word and this information has come from various MD'S local and national.

at time of 'press' this was deemed as correct but can be subject to change. as for my remarks about tescos staff this has come from present and past tesco operatives and as it is what the majority say its probably true.

if the petrol station gets the go ahead planning permission has got to be made public Wether its in the local media or at the local council offices.this could also be seen at the planning permission website which is on the local council website if you look deep enough. :):);)

  10. not according to the herald and post.

a site in morpeth has been earmarked for development:

20,000sq foot no less! and another 200 jobs to the area (isnt this what they said about the bedlington branch?)

    http://www.morpethherald.co.uk/news/Trader...peth.4381449.jp

it was great knowledge that tescos had required the big car park within the sale of safeways biulding but the had to 'pay off' the small spend and save and the hairdressing shops.

they are with talks to buy the lease from greggs and are with close talks to punch taverns to aquire the market tavern.this looks more than sooner than later. as tescos have worked with staff ,they over staffed with the knowledge that most of the positions filled wouldnt be required as the 'bsd apples would fall out of the basket'.

yes we all know that this is bad practice but thats how its worked.

they have plans to biuld a petrol station within the grounds of the car park at the rear of tescos and not on vulcan garage site.this is staying as it is ref ritchard. <_<<_<:)

  11. sounds like a bargain!

i'm partial to the odd night at ashianna's too!

the take away next to moby dicks is very good also!

the chap who owns ashiannas also owns bombay nights aswell.thats the one down the side of moby ducks.if it was the last take away in the whole wide world i would never use it.

ashiannas good for take outs.that one at the ovals good too you now. <_<:)

  12. Hope you had a good Birthday what was the place like?

    hello pete

unfortunatly i didnt go.the remarks on this forum did put me off a bit.i know they shouldnt and i should know better than to believe what people say on here.

i will try it one day though and i will give a non biaste opinion.

we went for a meal pete to ASHIANA''S on bedlington high st.it was a grand meal but we do love asian food.

i had a beef methi but would have had a keema korma or a keema tarka which is like a keema korma but a little otter.
