  1. Nope, i definatly refered to the amount of coloured folk in the country.

Hope i made that clear... theres a report button in the bottom left if the post if anyone is offended.

Well I am shocked and horified that you could make such remarks about our coloured brethren, I don't think a report button is going to solve this one. This could be seen as a call to riot or even a war.

  2. I agree, banning smoking and drinking would not be the end of the world but would it be the begining of the end. As Mr D has said where would Gordon get his tax from.

Banning everything and taking people's freedom of chioce away leads to nothing left except the air we breath, how long before the clown at number 10 starts to tax that? Just a thought.

mercuryg, I understand the point you make about smoking not comming back but we are the people not Gordon and his cronies there only there to cary out our wishes and its time the people of this country got together and started making them do that.

I am getting mighty sick of them telling me what I can do and cant do but have to listen to the lattest remarks (allegedly) I'm a cab for hire at £5000 a day, who do these idiots people think they are

  3. It is quite a difficult budget to forecast as on one hand with a huge deficit they need to be seen to act responsibly and do things to cut that back while at the same time, and with an imminent election, sweeten the pot for the very people who have to pay up. They already have a 1% tax increase on jobs going though! I guess the normal things will take a mildish hit but we may see a bit more discrimination within the likes of alcohol sales. Considering all the statements made by B/D the devil will be in the details of this one not the headline rates.

Anyone want a daft bet on the time it takes Darling to deliver this budget?

    1hr 55m.

    1hr 56m 34sec :D

  4. Of course the clubs are suffering, as the price of beer in the supermarkets is cheaper - by far - than even they can muster. The smoking ban has, indeed, had an effect, but the downturn in people visiting pubs was eveident long before that. After all, more people - by a very wide margin - don't smoke than do.

I have never found any pleasure in sitting in home drinking a can of beer regardless of the cheap supermarket prices. I used to go to my local workingmen's club because I enjoyed the crack and could have a smoke with my pint, that stoped for me when this government brought in the smoking ban.

The only time I visit a pub or workingmen's club is when I visit Bedlington and have a drink with old friends other than that Gordon can shove his no smoking ban up his jacksee cos I will not be going back to pubs or clubs until there are ashtrays on the table and I can light up. Sorry for the rant but I know I am not on my own with this one.

  5. I was remembering about Barrington school. I was there when Mrs Gorman was my teacher and I remember Mr Hunt. We used to have to cross three railway lines with no gates through the pit to get to school and that straight road seemed such a long way. Can you imagine nowadays parents letting them dothat they would take to their beds annd Im sure I remember coming home from school along that road in the dark in the winter.

I remember Mr Hunt and Mrs Gorman, I believe Mrs Gorman's name was Miss Hamilton before she got married. There was also Miss Anderson and Miss Tallantyre, Miss Scot was the headmistress, she moved to the station school and was replaced by Mrs Topping who was from the station school.

One of my long lasting memories of Barrington school was the day the King died, we were all ushered into class 1 and sat round an old radio to listen to the official anouncment of his death.

I do not remember the schools closing in them days when it snowed or is that just a modern day thing? :D
