  1. We went to Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries and Galloway on holiday and they've done a similar thing to the original example. The turbine is sited on a farm. The farm is paid rent in the form of electricity and the town takes its share. The surplus is taken up by the national grid and any profits are put back into the local area to provide leisure facilities etc. They also had a leisure centre which was paid for, through huge amounts of fundraising, and built by the people in the town (Kirkcudbright. Some good examples to look at.
  2. Loved it all tonight and thought the atmosphere was amazing - felt just like it used to on picnic days etc. (but not as warm!!)It'd be fantastic to have a proper fair again.

  16. We are holding a shopping event on Thursday 9th November at 6.30 pm in St Bede's Parish Hall to start our fundraising this year. The school has had to make the children's adventure playground out of bounds due to safety issues. New equipment is needed and a play surface will cost a sizeable amount of money. This, and several other events, will help to raise money to reopen the playground and give the kids somewhere to play in the winter. So come along on Thursday and see the wide range of stalls including our own Silver Cells, Phoenix Cards and Thorntons Chocolatiers.
  17. discovered a new sandwich filling today - pease pudding, sweet chilli flavour crisps and salad cream Anybody recommend any more?
  18. St Bede's is celebrating its 75th anniversary on July 5th. There's a display in school, and any past pupils are invited to come along on the 8th. If you've got relevant photos etc. the school would love to see them. Do you know any past pupils?
  19. Not seen it yet. Most people who have think the same as you. Did it cost all of the money set aside for improvements? Or will there be some left for useful things?
  20. Went into the Market Tavern to ask for a raffle prize donation for my son's school. The landlady was very generous not like some other places we tried.
