Ok so the production standard is no where near the other videos but in my defence I argue this is more than compensated by:
Subject matter
Aaah factor
Inclement weather related music track (Snow Patrol)
I rest my case!

I can`t even get used to using a Mac mouse!
Meanwhile back at the thread.
Here`s an appropriately named one for a Monday morning...
-
John,
I presume the foot stamping, thigh slapping, yahoo audio track is what we can expect to be pumping out into the ionosphere around Bedders soon………………….
What a bunch of cowboys!
Malcolm.
The music track & the precise 20 sec version for the finished ad was composed on Apple Mac Garageband by an ex pupil of mine from the 70s (now friend & Synergy colleague)
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1044352/
He also tinkered around a bit with a TTTV/Channel 4 minor hit called The Tube. Don`t remember it myself
Back all those years ago he was in a punk band so goodness knows what music he`ll play to the good people of Bedders & beyond.

Malcolm.
At least promise you`ll get your hoover out before your next epic
As the theme of the thread has moved a bit it gives me the opportunity to show a right bunch of local cowboys at work in a field somewhere in Eshottheugh...

Is this what you call a faux pas?
Malcolm
Although there is always a place for hand held, single camera technique (The Bill, Hill Street Blues etc. etc.}, this has not quite got the high production values I was looking for in this thread.
Apart from that you could have at least tidied up a bit!

There`s more to this thread than stunt video shorts.
Like this for example...

A big thank you to all who braved rather inclement weather conditions to attend our meeting.
I myself fell foul to said conditions & my profound apologies for not being there to meet you. I`m sure there will be numerous occasions in the future when we can get together & have a chat!
Feed back about the meeting was excellent from my colleagues, with a number of valuable links forged.
I will of course keep you up to date as things happen & in the meantime do not hesitate to pm me if I can be of assistance with anything: that is anything that doesn`t involve snow & ice Or if you would like to volunteer to help us in some way.
Take care out there!

And when they grow up.............
Check out the credits.....another Monster enterprise!
Nice one Malcolm.
Although I think I`ve seen this guy before... on St.Johns Road at the weekend!
-
Check this one out...
I could do that!

Dear All
I`m pleased to be able to firm up details on our proposed meeting.
It will be held in the Salvation Army Hall on Wednesday November 24th at 6.30pm.
We would like to take this opportunity to relay the thoughts & plans we have for our project & of course recruit those interested in getting actively involved with us.
Tea & coffee will be available. To enable us to guage needs for such could you please let me know if you might attend.
PMs would be great to do this. It would be brilliant to talk to you.
See you on the 24th.
Firming up the details even more I can say we will be in Room 4.
If you haven`t already done so please drop me a PM if you think you might be attending so we can get the Tea/Coffee numbers correct.
Many thanks.
Hope you can make it.

Dear All
I would like to take this opportunity to proudly inform you that Synergy has acquired major funding to allow our project to go forward.
Although we have known this for some time official funders protocol would not allow me to actually keep you up to speed.
My apologies for that.
This post is ahead of any official press release as I`ve valued your support the last 14 months or so & I thought you should be amongst the very first to know.
And so it begins...

I second that John, do continue to keep us updated on Synergy. Your hard work and enthusiasm will pay off and the town is behind you.
Thank you Blank.
Much appreciated.
Hope you can make the meeting in November.

Thanks for joining the dots nellington. It's a bit like waiting for the X33 to the Toon, we have waited 30 years for something like this then 3 turn up at the same time!
Joking aside I can only wish each one well and hope at least one makes it to completion.
Malcolm.
The driver of the first X33 that turned up hopes that yourself & others can attend our public meeting in November.
For everyones convenience the Salvation Army Hall has a bus stop right outside & I will stop. Promise!

Dear All
I would like to thank everyone for the recent posts to the thread I began all those many months ago. I`m rather taken aback by the flurry of activety.
I`m sorry if it appeared to some that time has gone by without anything seemingly happening with our project. But that could not be further from the truth.
Myself Neal & Colin have been endlessly applying to funding streams to get Synergy off the ground. But it seems we have not been as lucky as some.
You may remember our luck changed for the better, about a year ago, when we were kindly offered premises in Bedlington This spurred us on to keep going. For that we are so grateful.
My original reason for posting tonight was to tell you that we would like to hold an open public meeting sometime in November to discuss our project.
We would probably try to get the Salvation Army hall.
Would you to come?
Keep the comments coming please.

SNRG. What's going on here? Where has this Toast errr Koast sprung up from? Didn't even know you had any competition! And if this Toast has just sprung up, where has all the money come from in such a short time? As I know that you have been working hard on this project for quite a while now. Something just doesn't sit right here.
Try your hardest to get up an running before them, don't give up and good luck.
Thanks for your support Merlin. We appreciate it very much!

Don't really get that bit John? Wouldn't advertising revenue pay for overheads and running costs going forward? The very nature of match funding means it would probably only be a one off shot to get something off the ground and unless it was huge couldn't really pay for on-going costings. A model like that means you will always have a need for some form of grant funding and in this day and age that is not a forgone conclusion.
The biggest threat to traditional media would seem to me to be the Web. Once the technology is in place that could easily deliver all forms of media into each home where consumers could pay for the bits they wanted.
I agree with your thoughts on the restrictions Malcolm. But stations do get by. eg. one we started in Alnwick (Lionheart Radio) is still going, even in these austere times.
The restrictions were set down in the original 1990 Broadcasting act & this has been amended recently
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2010/draft/em/ukdsiem_9780111488089_en.pdf
but as you can see by sect. 7.9 the advertising capping still applies.
Hopefully we will get to the point where we will have to consider this as a problem to overcome.
-
Mr D,
I have only heard the basic overview presentations at the town council meetings but it seems one will mean retuning a radio for reception while the other is streamed over the net. Also one has a cap on commercial advertising while the other doesn't.
I stand to be corrected and maybe John W SNRG being the expert in this matter might like to elaborate?
Malcom.
I think the commercial cap you refer to is when a station is successful in obtaining a full time 5 year licence to broadcast.
To protect the advertising revenue of other local media eg. the likes of The Morpeth Herald or Newspost Leader etc. say, Ofcom state the income raised by advertising cannot exceed monies gathered from other fundings such as grants etc. In essence it`s a bit like match funding.
As to your first bit Malcom I can only really comment on SNRG`s intentions over the last 2 years:
We will be based in Bedlington (due to the kindness of a local businessman)
Perform 2 or 3 28 day test FM/online broadcasts
Apply for a 5 year fulltime licence
Put Bedlington at the centre for a change
Thanks to everyone for the supportive thoughts.

Shameless sycophancy here.
Denzel. I have no problems with that at all. Many thanks. Keep it coming!

John W... you are to be commended for trying to bring some life to Bedlington!! Well Done!
Here are a few ideas on fundraising that you could consider. Apologies if some are repeated earlier in the thread, it is just a brain dump!
1) Ask for a £1 donation from everyone in Bedlington... perhaps some local press could help you publicise it?
2) Collect clothes, brick-a-brac or similar and sell from one of the empty shop units on the front street - Goodness knows there are enough of them!
3) Have the 28 day pilot sponsored by a local business... ie. Synergy FM brought to you exclusively by Bills Pet Supplies etc?
4) An event... could you use the market square for a late summer event. The opening and the lights being turned on there attracted a a lot of people. Maybe a few bands, stalls etc?
5) Donations website... using PayPal for simplicity could help people to donate smaller amounts
6) Get some local schools involved in the preparatory work - This could help to raise the profile of the project and allow you to generate some PR through local press etc as well as adding something to the community
7) An Auction - If local businesses don't want to donate cash they could offer services or products for auction?
Just a few ideas.... if I think of any more I will post them later.
Good Luck!!!
Thanks for your words of support Jim. I`ll pass on your thoughts at our next steering group meeting.
