  1. Is your brother younger than you? My grandma seems to remember going to school with a Besford. The horse and cart driver was Billy Dixon, my great great grandad.2
  2. I've spoke to my grandparents and George remembers you from school though he said you were a little younger than him. He also said your dad was an official at the pit and thinks you lived in Butchers St/Lane? My grandma remembers your brother Dennis? She also remembered the Gaff and Mrs Mavin who used to run it, she said you could hear her loud footsteps rushing to repair the film when it snapped even though she was a tiny woman. She used to live in the Strong's Houses (?) behind the gaff until she moved into the prefabs. She also remembers the dances in the parish hall. She said you may remember her grandad Billy Dixon who used to drive the co-op horse and cart.
  3. Sounds like you knew him well, I'm not sure of your name so I can pass this on to him. I remember he told me about an accident he was involved in down the pit.
  4. That's my grandad. He's married to Pat and has three children. What do you remember about him?
  5. That would be either my grandad or his dad my great grandad
  6. Hi, what an interesting read. I was wondering if anyone remembers the Boweys, Darlings or McCallums? They would have been there until the 60s.
  7. Hi everyone, just wanted to remind you we are still here and going strong two months down the line. We're hoping to change our delivery day to a Thursday as we start to roll out a full time service. Please visit our website and support a local business sourcing local produce. www.thevegboxcompany.com Alternatively please contact us on info@thevegboxcompany.com Thanks
  8. Splodge We do a fruit bag which has more fruit in than the family fruit and veg box contains. Last weeks had 6 golden delicious apples, 3 conference pears, 6 oranges, 1kg of bananas, a punnet of yellow plums and 3 tomatoes. You could order a box of veg only and add the fruit bag to it. Thanks for the support.
  9. Hi Brett The produce is all locally produced as an where possible but it is not organic, we are however comparing our prices to equivalent supermarket produce and do work out cheaper as we offer free delivery. Thanks for your interest and questions, check out the website for more info. Laura
  10. For more information and quick and easy ordering please visit our new website at www.thevegboxcompany.com
  11. Keith, Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately we don't need a delivery driver just yet but, fingers crossed, we will do in the near future. As we're still working around our current jobs we only deliver on a Saturday but once business increases we're hoping to extend this to a Tuesday and Thursday. The contents of the boxes are set by us each week but the basics like potatoes, carrots and apples are going to be there regularly.
