  1. had a bit of a think over night - the music box.... was where the cobblers is now and the hairdressers they had was up the narrow stairs (separate door access). they then moved to blyth to where the cut price toiletries store (don't know name) is and the hairdressers was accessed through internal staircase
  2. did the music box move to blyth in the 80's - to near or above/beside woolworths
  3. my father worked down the mines and got out when i was young, , my uncle (dads brother) worked for the mines (netherton colliery and then transfered to bates) until the 1984 strike and had to wait to retire(until the strike finished) my other uncles all worked in the mines lynmouth, ellington another at brenkley.... one of my grandfathers worked at woodhorn. they all said if there had been a choice they would have done something else. I was 'lucky' enough to go down netherton (for a look around to see what it was like) after it had stopped producing coal before being decomissioned and I personally think it was a horrible/dangerous place to earn your living, the environment is dark, dirty, stale, much better to be topside
  4. he had a good run at it.... at 95 years. but as you said, it was a good film if he was in it, remember .............Airwolf the series as dominic santini........ the wild bunch with william holden ice station zebra...Rock Hudson, Patrick McGoohan
  5. I am absolutely disgusted in some people 2 of the picnic tables in the grassed area at the base of the furnace bank have been burnt to a crisp. these brainless morons.................( fill in your own words in the gaps) the act must have been deliberate. IDIOTS
  6. Bet you wouldn't want to work down one!
  7. Really!!!............................................Bedlington Urban District Council....covered a lot more area than just the west end of bedlington ..............to use the BUDC coat of arms all three parish councils would have to agree.
  8. the road was concrete and remained for years after the colliery was pulled down, part of the road it was still open in about1977/8 as my dad took me there the practice driving. you could travel from the nedderton side right through to the choppington side for a while, then when the colliery was open casted for the howard seam the road was closed to the public.
  9. can people really remember why it had to be demolished?............and having classes in the porta cabins
  10. I remember the shop at the oval also, but the shop at bedlington must has been open for at least 35 yr. David is is the double of his dad........so in a way Don is still with us
  11. A review can consider a number of issues, including: whether to create a new parish whether to alter the boundary of an existing parish whether to group a number of parishes together in a grouped parish council Local people can petition a principal council to undertake a community governance review. A principal council must undertake a review if the relevant conditions in relation to the petition are met. And most importantly the 3 parish councils now formed would have to want to reunite.........but everyones got there own powerbase and lets face it some parts of bedlington, others don't want to take on and some feel forgotton......no offence ment.
  12. I dont think the area mentioned has ever been cut since the bridge painters left and it was re seeded..........and there we go "its east bedlington"...... if bedlington was united as a council so much more would be acheived instead of well its not my area..... WE ARE ALL FROM BEDLINGTON!
  13. i wish they would explain........as a united bedlington may stand a better chance of funding and get our leisure facilities that we so deserve lets face it if you add it up ashington by the time it is finished will have had 2 leisure centres
  14. why cannot we have the three re-unite for a better bedlington...........
  15. that was westridge secondary schools motto
  16. the area in question has never been the same since the porta cabins left (bridge repair people).they just seeded it they should have been made to put it back the way it was before they arrived the verge used to be beautiful with daffodils in spring.
  17. It is great that Bedlington is actually part of the route for the torch carrying, however it would have been a better day if the route had travelled through the rest of bedlington (say down rothsay/victoria/ station road then on to bebside via the Banktop)as well - How come Ashington gets 2 goes at it? how were the routes planned?
