  1. jeff reid was correct in saying that blyth is a dump . he should be condemming the residents of blyth who are making the place what it is and not the council

  4. when i started choppington b colliery 1952 i heard that joe barret from eastgate had the northumberland record for filling the most tubs with coal in one shift a cant remember how many he filled
  5. i new noel howe at choppington high pit he sure had thick glasses as you say ,one day he was visiting his granny at eastgate as he was leaving to go home he got onto his bycycle and rode away the next thing we seen noel do was crashing into a group of young lads playing football in the street he carried the goal keeper out of his posts

  7. hello bill regarding the three quarter i cant remember the twins albert and alan morten ever been in the drifts they were allways in the plessey seam driving the road ways the men that i was with was danny salem charlie smith and the dutch man cant remember his name .

  9. i started and completed the downward three quarta drift and also the rising back drift one name i can recall was george palmer

  11. i remember the coal fire we used to toast a slice of bread on it also we would put a potato on the fire and toast it for to eat
  12. yes the golf course was made on the open cast coal mine at bedlington. after it was finnished mining coal
  13. big geordie was first at bedlington then he was at butterwell

  22. i knew ganny mather very well the gaff had wood benches at the front of the hall ganny would shove as manny people as she could to get more people in ( no health and safety then ) just pack them in . happy days at the gaff
  23. me and my freinds used to get into the star at choppington also named the gaff with an cleen jam jar .
  24. i can remember the incident about john chivers and the grenade thier was a few of us lads playing in the park behind ware he lived at the time we didnt no that it was a grenade .after our days play in the park we all went our different way . we found out the next day what had happened .
  25. i can remember the explotion at choppington colliery as a young lad i seen one ambulance leeve the colliery and one horse and cart with some one in it going to the hospital
