  1. Thank you all for your welcome
  2. Can anyone remember going to the Clayton. I started going to "teenagers night' on a Monday when I was 15. They used to have dances on Fridays too and I seem to remember them having roller skating sessions too.
  3. I haven't been back for quite few years now - it's a long way from Devon, but I keep promising myself I'll make the effort before I get too old.:-)
  4. I worked at the factory when I first left school in 1963. It was owned by family called Aykroyd. They also owned factories in North Wales and Manchester. They made shirts and pyjamas, mainly for Great Universal Stores and Littlewoods.
  5. Did Mr Bebington marry Miss Shotton?
  6. I went to 'the Whitley' in about 1953. I started at 'the little school' the previous year and should have been there until I was 7. But because, being part of the baby boom, we were overcrowded they sent my class to the big school. In those days it took pupils up until they were 15, West ridge hadn't been built then. I remember Mr Hall, although he never taught me and the headmaster Mr Nicholson. He had quite a reputation. Does anyone remember Miss Molden? She had a scary reputation but she was lovely really as long as you behaved. I was sad to leave at 11 to go to the grammar school.
  7. I was born in Bedlington in 1947 and attended first the Village Infant school near St Cuthbert's church before moving on to the Whitley Memorial school. At eleven I went to Bedlington Grammar school. I moved away in 1967 when I got married and have lived in Devon for the past 36 years. Many memories (mostly fond) of the town, especially the hours we spent playing in the free woods and the ha'penny woods when we were children
