i had to laugh at the guy on the mini 360 digger today. totally inept on the bucket, trying to clear the path, and seemed to totally forget there is a plow on the front!
-
i wanna know how long thats been going so far, as it looks to be under half way already!

It's all been explained to me, and i kinda get the idea now. I just need some practice with it so i know i got it right. I've organised a few games with family members as a trial, so i guess i should be ready sometime in the new year. Still need to confirm a venue. I have a poker set, but its a cheap one, so a venue with all the gear would be prefered. Me not living in bedlington and all the snow has thwarted efforts, even though a phone is to my left as i type this! I'm not too keen on running the night permananently, but i am willing to host a few nights to get a feel for it. Once we have a few regulars i'm sure no one person needs to be "boss", and it should go ahead regardless. Any ideas for venues? I'll be asking in The Wharton.

i understand all the hands, what beats what etc, i just have the disadvantage of playing online and having all the bets worked out for me!
-
A man with a poker set and no idea how to split pots! I have the chips and cards, i just don't know the finer points of how to pay the bets. i'm fine until someone goes all in, then betting continues, then i get confused....
-
in short, there wasn't one arranged anywhere. Whilst i could host a simple game, the maths involved in split pots, side bets etc are above my level and would surely cause arguments, so i was hoping to show there was interest here, should someone arrange one. I'd happily go along to one, i'm just not interested in the hastle of organising it myself, not living in bedlington anymore. Should anyone know of a one thats being hosted, let me know and i'll come along. For now, Aspers in the gate is quenching my thirst.

Well, i've just finnished painting all the rocks in my gaden white in case the ethnic minority family next door fancy a snowball fight. :dribble:

Thankyou Malcolm. Much appreciated. Although i am not currently commenting, i appreciate the information, as i'm sure others do too.

Bah, i was gonna say the Top Club too, but the "Public" house thing threw me! Doh! I would have got the year wrong tho.

I'm sorry, but that lad (Or possibly lass??) should be making lots of money now. Thats raw talent that is. Proof that pxxxxxg around on a BMX on Bedlington front street can actually lead somewhere! Be interesting to see if any interesting talent appears at Gallagher park eh?

Really? I've heard they did a postcode survey a while back, and found Bedlington was split 3 ways between Ashington, Blyth and Cramlington, and therefore did not need another store in the middle. There is also the monopoly thing, where they can't have too many stores in close proximity, so Bedlington could not become a food based ASDA. The two proposals i've seen on the table, and these are still purely proposals, are an ASDA Living store, selling only non-food items, and an Argos.

The policy is in place, but rarely enforced in my experience.

just because they are trying to attract a certain type, does not mean thats what they'll get. I've had the privilidge of working all over britain, and sampled many of Wetherspoons establesments. In these, i never seen a crowd that would stay there all night. Most of what i observed consisted of people meeting there, in a quiet arena, catching up ofer 2-3 drinks then once the alcohol took effect, they would move on in search of entertainment. Pool and Music to be exact. Later, they would return with the last of their money for a cheep last drink or 2, before home or the late bars. Between the hours of 8.30 and 10 on a friday and saturday, the crowd would peter out to a handfull by 9.15, then start filling up again at 9.30. This was common all over, wherever i went, including Ashington and Whitley Bay. Of course this is just what i've noticed, where i've been, but it seemed pretty consistant.

The Traffic In And Out Of Meadowdale Middle School

or use the other gate... 33 seconds further down the road! -
Some may need to be worried, but i can only see this turning into good things. Other pubs will have to up their game a little now, the usual standards just won't fly anymore. The Wharton, in my opinion, can only benifit from this, and i can see the Blue Bell getting a little more trade as the cold sets in. It may not bring more people to the town (although, i think it will!) but it will bring people up the west end again. It'll be interesting to see which landlords use this to their advantage, and which just sit back and hope for the best.

Eh? Jesus are we having two seperate conversations here or what?

Thanks for splitting this. My leaving my moderator role was for the good of the site. are you trying to say it would have been better for the site if i had not left?
-
Although i agree with the rest of your post, you seem to miss the point i was making about the poker night. I posted it in the Talk of the Town section, as this was meant for serious discussion, yet the first reply was negative: Had i wanted replies like that, i would have posted in Chat Central, where any comment (within reason) goes. Had this been from a regular member, it would have been a little more accepted as humorous, but a moderator should, in my opinion, be setting a standard. This is where holding back on the comments comes with the responsibility. The only reason the thread progressed was because i did not bite as hard as i normally would have, and continued anyway. The outcome of the thread in no way affects the fact the post was in poor taste, especially from a site moderator, and should not have been posted. Anyway, this thread has become majorly off-topic too, and perhaps should be split? just a suggestion.

Perhaps in those early days, the others either were not aware of what a force bedlington.co.uk were going to become, or they just wanted to sit back and see how the website developed. Either way, every single suggestion i, and others have made has been in some way "jestered". My opinion (and i know i said i would not say this again, but it seems it needs clarification) is that this site needs 1 area where serious discussion is held. In this area, people should be made to be at the very least constructive. I have no problem with anyone telling me my ideas are pants, but i still expect, at the very least, some sort of encouragement with a reply, especially from a moderator of the site. Merlin wrote once something like "I don't think that would work... but..." and this is exactly the response that should be made. As a point of fact, take the Poker thread. The first suggestion, by a moderator, was to forget Bedlington, and go online. Is this the attitude to have? i think not! If something as simple as adding a poker night to a pub or hall is treated this way, what is a serious advertisement going to fetch? 2 local potential radio stations have shown their face, and one is simply being bullied in my eyes. Again, i have no problem with the questions being asked, they are relevant, and bluntly, need asked. its the way they are being asked, and the insinuations behind the posts that i believe is wrong. The replies from those budding businesses are also out of line, but i see why they got that way. Let me be clear here, i've been a moderator here, and i was not up to the job. However i saw my failings, and asked to step aside for the good of the website. This is because for some reason i actually care about the future of this website. Please, show me one instance apart from Synergy FM where advertising on this forum did the business good, and i'll show you 3 where the members of this board (Including myself at one stage) made it a bad move on the part of the business. As for chat central being open to more than TOTT, when did this happen? the only forum available to a wider audience that i am aware of it Northumberland Chat. In what way is Chat Central different to TOTT? We have a good website here, with a good foundation of members. If those members, (including myself) were to adhere to a more strict set of posting rules in TOTT, or another forum section launched for the purpose, then i believe the credibility of this site will increase ten fold. I'm not saying posts should be removed completely, just advice given on how to get the point across without going too far and being, to be blunt, offensive. I'm a member of several forums where posts in the serious section are moderated completely, and nothing is allowed through without prior approval and moderation. This, i believe, should be the case for this new/old section devoted to this cause. At least for certain members who flout the rules, moderator's or not. In short, lets start getting serious and constructive about Bedlington, at least in one forum!

Unfortunatly, i usually work during the times they are on, so no can do. Shame a representative was not able to keep us updated here though.
