  1. Hi, Can anyone tell me anything about a farm situated somewhere on Newcastle Lane Bedlington. Apparently my ancestors were farming 7 acres of land there ?

The only place I can think of that could be anything like 7 acres would be where Les Dinsmore had a bit of a market garden/plant nursery opposite the bottom end of the golf course, I think there is a public footpath running by there now

  2. "If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.â€

Easy for you to say Malcolm

  3. do you think having a cafe at the oval is a good idea?

Absoloutely, Linzi , just like the ones in Amsterdam, when you leave, you really do feel refreshed. Seriously though, there was a cafe of some sorts in the 70's it didn't last 5 mins as far as I remember.

  4. Hi Keith, I know what you mean, is the building you're on about the old Keenleysides building, cos I was looking at that very one earlier. I thing the key here is to ask the kids directly what they want to do. For example I've been to the little pizza shop at the Station, or rather tried to as the amount of kids dumping their bokes outside then monopilising the inside was ridiculous and made it near impossible to get in and order the said pizza. They are bored, they have nothing to do but they aren't imaginitive enough to do anything other than stand on street corners, ride their lightless bikes and annoy the general public 'cos there's nothing to do or anywhere to go', and is this largely because of the satellite towns having all the stuff Bedlington wants ? Leisure centres, the dreaded fast food joints ???

And yes I do seem to remember the Domino opening for youngsters, although the clientele which frequented on Friday and Saturday were the same mental age :) (I was one of them)

Building I am on about Andy is the old Jakes bar, it is already set up but dear knows what sort of state the inside is now. Probably the the most obvious place to use [ at least initially to see how it would work] is the residents association next to K/sides. It is ideal, old folk and meetings through the day, kids at night [ anything that gets broke the kids are bound to get the blame though]. It already has kitchen/toilets etc. After all the place is for residents, so why cant the teens get some benefit from it as long as they are properley supervised. Seems as if it is just used for old folk and councillors to use and the odd neighbourhood cop meeting but as I said the kids are residents too.

  5. Serious propostion to the original poster of this thread (and anyone else who wants to jump in), how's about a place just to hangout (alcohol free) for under 18's, with amusements, pool table(s), food on offer ??

I'm trying to get another business off the ground, but after talking to the wife about this issue, she asked 'Well why don't you do something ?', to be honest, why the hell not ??

I'm looking at suitable locations, licenses, feasability etc.

I don't think we need a fast food restaurant in Bedlington, we need something to do not just for the youngsters, but for everyones sake and sanity !!

So when's the next meeting ??

It has been tried before Andy. Anyone reading this that is over a certain age will remember the Domino was open on a Sunday night for the under 18's. It was run by the same staff that were on duty on Friday and Saturday nights so that they would recognise anyone going on a Sunday trying to get in on other nights. There was the YM Monday to Friday. The thing is, no matter what is made available to teenagers it wont be enough. Generations of teenagers ,[myself and some of you reading this, included] have hung around on street corners because "there is nothing else to do" and this generation are doing the same , so will the next and so on, crying the same story nothing else to do. There is a building in the station that would be ideal for Andy's plan [the wife had the same thoughts a few years ago] It has a bar , kitchen ,dining area etc. It went on the market about 10 - 11 years ago and never sold [asking too much for it] it was taken off the market and is now standing there going to wreck and ruin. Some local authorities around the country would force the owners of such buildings to bring them up to scratch or the council would compulsory purchase them. The thing is Andy, you have the right idea and it will work as long as you can keep it fresh , the minute they get bored with it you will hear the same old story, nothing else to do.

  6. I'm liking the change to Torres's old chant at Anfield...did make me laugh

Fernando proved his not a Red,torres Torres!!

the Money went straight to his head Torres Torres!!

go to Chelsea, ruin Your life,we hope John Terry !*!@# your wife.

Why should JT end up with the best deal

  7. You mean nice well behaved players that lead ultra clean lives like Terry, Ashley Cole, Rooney and Lescott. I honestly think that a call to the England squad would be well deserved for Joey Barton. I'm sure Peter Beardsley may have an old mask laying around that Ameobi can borrow  6 months out with a broken cheek seems a bit excessive, [Although remember how long Marcelino was on the sick with a sore finger]

  8. Just watched one of the best premiership games of all time. The Toon staged the best recovery since the Titanic was raised. 0-4 down at half time to draw at 4-4 and should have won 5-4 . Capello [a fine English name] needs to be told that football is played in places other than London, Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. Joey Barton has played out of his skin this season, that incident today proved that he can bite his lip, many a player would have retaliated. He has to be one of the best midfielders in the premiership at the moment, so why is Capello not picking him for England [same could be said about Nolan].

  10. Its (the cyclone) is forecast to hit the coast around about Cairns south to Townsville this is the second one to run into the Qld coast in a week I feel sorry for the poor buggers,on the news last night it said if it is as large as expected it could destroy 10 thousand homes. Now both Govts are panicking but its too late to panic they need answers.

Just watched the news, that was blowing one helluva hooley out there Brian. Seems that most folk have been lucky/took proper precautions. They say that damage wasn't as great as expected. You and yours ok?

  11. Hi all just to let anyone who may be interested know, to-day is Australia Day and this proud nation has a day off work to celebrate so to be patriotic in an Aussie way me and mine are going to Burrum heads for a BBQ breakie and a BBQ lunch followed by a swim and a snooze ....(Glad the rain has gone)post-212-0-60472900-1295987327_thumb.jpg

Things are going to be a little draughty out there Brian, according to our news. I had a look on google earth and seems it is going to hit the coast a little further north from where you live. Hope it dosn't blow you about too much, nail everything down just in case. Stay safe mate

  12. Gutted he's gone but for that sort of money they would be daft to let him go. After all we have got Stephen Ireland

Ireland and barton in the middle with routledge and guttierez on the wings. Nolan supporting either Ranger, Best or Ameobi up front.

Ameobi will have to swap his boots over and start kicking straight. It was announcedin the Journal t'other week that Ranger was committed to scoring goals for the Toon so he just needs to pull his socks up and have a good go. After all he appears to put more effort in that Ameobi but doesn't get a game. Don't think Best has a hat-trick in him every game but we need some commitment from all of the players and leave Perch on the bench and we should be fine.

Agreed..... they should be ok as long as Ameobi is given sevice from midfield and wings cos he his not the best at putting himself about and winning the ball. Pardew has already told Ranger to buckle down or else, the kid has the talent as long as he works at it. BUT , what is going to happen to this £35m?

  13. I didn't say that you did! I was mainly making the same comparison as you. The fuel companies and the government don't want alternative sources of bio-diesels & fuels due to the taxation on current fuels just like the pharmaceuticals companies don't want alternative medicines available as if people started using cheaper alternatives then they wouldn't make any money.

    WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH

  14. Well, £35m for a player with half a season Premiership experience Suppose it is good business for NUFC but a helluva risk for Liverpool. I dont think the kid is a one season wonder but you just need to look back at the Andy Cole saga when he was sold to Man Utd. He did ok for them but was never the star player he was at the toon. Carroll needs the right people arround him now to keep him grounded, things may be moving a bit too fast for him and liverpool need to be carefull. If they need help I'm sure Paul Gasgoine would offer some advice. [young player, lots of money, hangers on and front page headlines etc.]

  15. If Liverpool want to pay £35m for him the TOON should let him go. Yes they would miss the player, but unless he does some growing up and sort himself out, away from football he will land himself in jail. Only thing is,can NUFC find a replacement in such short time [8 hrs or so] cos if they dont Ashley will trouser the money for himself, then just watch the club go back up for sale , after all, he has just had a £35m kickstart from the sale of a homegrown player, as close to pure profit as you can get.

  16. Artificial petrol that costs 19p a litre could be on the forecourts in less than three years. British scientists are refining a recipe for a hydrogen based based fuel that will run in existing cars. With hydrogen as its base rather than carbon, it's emissions will be zero. Here's the crunch with duties it will cost 60p a litre and AA president Edmund King warned "The fact that hydrogen is cheaper now doesn't mean it always will be because the Government would soon get it's hands on it and increase the tax"

Which is a point I was going to raise! If we have zero emissions from this new fuel, then everybody would not have to pay road tax! Where would the CON PARTY get their money from then. This should really please Governmental green pushers, should it not. I get the feeling it would not, as they could not then blame car users for global warming, and use this as an excuse to tax and condemn car users!

Another point though, how can I put it, more sinister point, what are the oil barons going to do about this, potentially this could wipe them off the market, no longer can they hold the world to ransom! Basically they would be finished, finito and caput. Do you really think that these people will let this happen? I can see the hot line to the hitmen ringing now. Or this idea will disappear with the scientists either VERY well off or considerably DEAD!

Back in the 80's Farmway were trialing the early forms of bio-diesel made from rapeseed oil. They had all of their trucks and vans running on this fuel at a fraction of the cost of conventional diesel and even before the trials were complete the government at the time slapped so much duty on it,it wasn't even worth completing the trial. The easier we try to make life for ourselves, the more the government wants us to pay for it. That means any goverment, no matter who is in power, now or any time in the future. The saying, "what goes up, must come down" does not, and will never apply to the cost of running a car.

  17. Seeing that Christmas is well out of the way, how many of us has either had or given someone a naff or useless prezzie at any time.

I remember the first proper xmas me and the wife had together (the previous one we had only been married a week). We were living and working on a large dairy farm in Hertfordshire and the winter months were really busy for us. I left it right to the last minute [5pm xmas eve] before buying her prezzie. I went into Buntingford, a place similar in size to Bedlington, and the only two shops left open were a sweet shop and a hardware store. I went into the sweet shop and bought her a box of chocolates, then into the hardware shop and bought her long shafted axe. On xmas morning I made sure I was well out of her swing when she opened the axe [i did put a pretty ribbon on it]. Luckily she saw the funny side - we needed a new axe anyway.
