Tommy was "old" then. Probably around sixty, but to a ten year old anyone over 40 was ancient. -
My Nana and Grandad lived at Hirst Terrace North, I spent a lot of time in Dr. Pit park in the 70's and, when old enough to be trusted, explored the river from Furnace Bank to Hartford so our paths probably never crossed on those timelines. -
Hello any and all. I was born in 1966 to a Bedlington Lass (Hirst Terrace North), I remember the outside netty still being in use 197n) and a Morpeth Lad, both active Brass Banders, they settled in the Wansbeck Estate prior to 1970 and lived there till the early 90's before moving to Milllfield North. High School was Simonside House (Mr Priestley) Form Tutor; Mrs Vine (art) other teachers I can remember, Mr Horne (English), Ron Cave (Music), smelly Turnock (History), Cunningham, Thomas and Cooke (games etc.) Anyone remember School Orchestra of those years? Kevin 'lavvy' Laverick, Ian 'acky' Atkinson, Sonia Watson, Alison Snaith, Alison Stroud (I know what happened to her), Michelle Bullimore, Brian Rowley, Brian Jaques, Stephen Hunter, Paul Cutler, Michael Smith, Neil Swan. Now living in Scotland but still have family in Bedlington.

I remember the Hell of doing the "cross country" run from BHS 79-82. Mr Cunningham was an evil *basket*. From the black bridge to the bank top, down Furnace bank, over the bridge then cut along the river bank to the Spine Road and back over the river, down to a scrapyard(?) and return to the Black bridge, 2 whole loops and if you were spotted cutting any corners you got to go down the bank and back up again. I don't remember ever seeing that bandstand.

I only remember the rectangular one at Atlee Park. The Picnic field. But that would seem logical.

Long-shot, but I wonder if Tommy Percy (who was my tutor for cornet) was a relation? Lived at Easton Homes if I remember correctly '76 (ish).

Why the *heck* did I not learn this at school? I studied (and failed) O-Level history at BHS and NEVER knew that Railway lines were invented there. Blame my teacher J (smelly) Turnock!

Not yet, I'm trying to create an album with 36 images and somehow managed to lose the entire thing. Should be uploaded in the next 30mins. Just been there, very poor layout and design, lots of bands from Northumberland missing.

This is also in my collection, dated 1929. No name of band, suspect it is North Seaton Colliery Band. A young Billy Litster in foreground. -

I started my Brass Band "career" with Netherton about 1972/3 aged 6. Both my parents played and over the years I played with a few different bands. I've a lot of pics to upload, most with identifed players (my dad was obsessive about "tagging" them). AFAIK, Netherton only had the one band but the name changed a few times over the years until the pit closed and they became Brentford Nylons Band, practice room then moved to the factory in Cramlington.
