Bedlingtonshire High School Pupil 79-82

Featured Replies

Hello any and all.
I was born in 1966 to a Bedlington Lass (Hirst Terrace North), I remember the outside netty still being in use 197n) and a Morpeth Lad, both active Brass Banders, they settled in the Wansbeck Estate prior to 1970 and lived there till the early 90's before moving to Milllfield North.
High School was Simonside House (Mr Priestley) Form Tutor; Mrs Vine (art) other teachers I can remember, Mr Horne (English), Ron Cave (Music), smelly Turnock (History), Cunningham, Thomas and Cooke (games etc.)
Anyone remember School Orchestra of those years? Kevin 'lavvy' Laverick, Ian 'acky' Atkinson, Sonia Watson, Alison Snaith, Alison Stroud (I know what happened to her), Michelle Bullimore, Brian Rowley, Brian Jaques, Stephen Hunter, Paul Cutler, Michael Smith, Neil Swan.
Now living in Scotland but still have family in Bedlington.

Welcome to the forum, Bandsman 1966. Looking at all your Netherton band photos has been a nice walk down memory lane for a Netherton lass . Thanks for posting them.

Hi Bandsman 1966.

I was born in 1959 in Bedlington. My dad was also from Morpeth.

I recognise some of those teachers' names.

Alison Stroud was my cousin's daughter.

Always good to chat to someone of a similar era!

@Anne Gilbert - Bandsman1966 has added some good info and photos within this group but it has been a while since he lasted logged into the site:(.

if you hover over a members name tag with any post they have made the system shows part of the profile of that member and shows the date that person last logged in :-

Where can I see those photos, please?

@Anne Gilbert within the gallery section Bandsman1966 posted a group of photos of the Netherton Colliery Bands. Can't remember him posting any of the High School from 1979 onwards - but I could be wrong.

If you select the 'Gallery' tag along the top of the page you will get the Gallery sections. One of them is 'Historical Bedlington' and in that section are the Netherton Colliery band album, by Bandsman1966, and there is also an album for all the past and present Bedlington schools. Unfortunately there aren't many photos in the Bedlingtonshire Community High School album.

This is a direct link to the school album :-

Thanks, Alan.

I love looking at the old school photos to see if there's someone I recognise!
