Andy Millne Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 Has anybody had any luck spotting the Perseid shower? This year is supposed to be a good year for it with about 90 an hour at the peak. I wasn't out long last night but did manage to spot one. Weather wasn't ideal.
Guest mrsvic Posted August 13, 2009 Report Posted August 13, 2009 We were out, perhaps Monday night around 10.30, not Perseid spotting, but trying to get a glimpse of my favourite galaxy (M51) with the new scope. We did see an amazing meteor though... so bright that it took our attention from looking NW, to it's Southward direction... looking like a huge ball of flame in the sky... it flew in from the East way, somewhere round the Square of Pegasus, and left a smoky tail of about 10 degrees in the sky. Unlike any other shooting stars and the like that I've seen, this had a shape as opposed to a point and was a flame colour. Quite impressive.May take a look out later if the sky clears... it's not been good viewing conditions of late... roll on the crisp winter nights!
