Hillbilly Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 I am starting to make some progress on my family history thanks in part to the replies I have recieved on here... so I thought I'd give it another go with a something that has me stumped!I THINK I have managed to find my great grandfather in the 1911 census. His birth place is recorded as 'Carrington Colliery'... I have never heard of it and can't find any references to it on google.Anyone know anything about it or where it was?ThanksJim
Andy Millne Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 There was a carrington in Midlothian, Scotland until 1975 if that's any help.
Andy Millne Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 could that not be a barrington?Ah! Now that could make more sense.
Cympil Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 The only reference i can find to Carrington Colliery, is that it was formerly known as `Wickham and Bullock Island Colliery, Carrington`. If this is the right colliery (and not Barrington) then you`d be best off searching for Bullock Island. There`s quite a bit info on Google. There`s a photo here too.
