"once-in-a-generation" space storm

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/7923069/Nasa-scientists-braced-for-solar-tsunami-to-hit-earth.html

One of these days the "man-made global warming" lobby will make the perfectly obvious connection between solar activity and Earth temperatures. But, for now at least, why let the obvious stand in the way of making a political statement?

It would seem certain that we are seeing a change in the climate of the planet. Why, might be a far more difficult question to answer and might hinge on a personal belief as there would seem a dearth of unambiguous empirical evidence. However without knowing the 'Why' can we really make the changes needed to alter the situation? We can make an educated guess of course and proceed with changes along those lines. The path to hell is paved with good intentions!

Put two people in a room and measure the temperature. Now fill the same room with 50 people and measure the same ambient temperature. This is what we have done with the planet. Interaction between these people will have an effect, individually quite small but cumulative never-the-less. Now get everyone to light a cigarette and switch on an overhead bank of 500w halogen lights…….

As for solar flares we are supposed to be in a time of 'Maunder minimum', irrespective of a single huge event. What we cannot dismiss is the albedo effect and our impact onto that.

that article had nowt to do with climate change more a "knowing" event.

might be worth a ttrip to john o groats or the shetlands to watch the northern lights!

scary to think we could be wiped out by a sun fart!:lol:

they may even make the connection to the 30 to 40,000 nuclear tests done in the 50's and 60's! All of a sudden they stopped. I wonder why? Did some scientist say ' Hold on here mate, this is !*!@# up our planet! And I know a way we can make an absolute killing.. we blame it on car emissions and fossil fuels and tax the the illegitimate sons of biatches to the hilt! Blame every one and everything but US, make them feel as guilty as hell, some do-gooding group will back us and Bob's your uncle, that's us quids in! NO PROBS!
