Malcolm Robinson Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 British Golf Rules in 1940You have to hand it to the Brits, when it comes to golf. And, you thought you were a tough weather golfer. This notice posted in war-torn Britain in 1940 for golferswith stiff upper lips. You have to admit --- these guys really had guts!German aircraft from Norway would fly on missions tonorthern England ; because of the icy weather conditions, the barrels of their guns had a small dab of wax to protectthem. As they crossed the coast, they would clear their gunsby firing a few rounds at the golf courses. Golfers wereurged to take cover.
Adam Hogg Posted May 8, 2012 Report Posted May 8, 2012 Was this while the local council ran the golf course
threegee Posted May 9, 2012 Report Posted May 9, 2012 Nope; way back in those days golf was highly elitist. You'd only find people like businessmen, trade union bosses, management of nationalised industries, and upwardly mobile socialist politicians, able to afford the private club membership fees! Shameful what that stuck-up club did to poor old Ramsay MacDonald though!
